Journal de biblioholic03, 07 mars 08

So it's been a few days since I've posted. I'm visiting my family in Charleston, so I've been busy with that and working. Let me see if I can do an update for you guys...

Oh I guess I should start with food and exercise since that's primarily what this website is about! I have done well on food (mostly) since coming down Wednesday. It's only a 2 or 2 and a half hour drive here from where I live, but naturally I got a flat about 20 minutes out of Charleston. I do know how to change a tire, but because I haven't been doing my strength training like I should, I could just not budge those stupid nuts! And of course I forgot I had 2 huge bags of give away things in my trunk as well as work items, so I had to cram all that in my backseat before I could even get to the spare and equipment. Luckily two nice guys stopped and helped me change it. If no one stopped I do have AAA and my dad was about 30 minutes away. Anyway, so needless to say by that time no work got done Wednesday. We had some steak, salad, and grilled sweet potatoes for dinner. And I walked about 2 miles. Not superb, but not horrible.

Thursday I worked and had a 3pt breakfast and then for lunch I had Subway, which I splurged on...I was good and had the ham sub on wheat bread (5pts) but of course got the meal and had the 2 cookies. Bad me. Dinner was a small helping of spaghetti. So I think I was within my points.

Ok so where to start on LIFE! Greg doesn't have a job yet, he contacted the principal at a year round school here, but he doesn't want to hire anyone for the position Greg wants this close to the end of the school year b/c he's not sure of the budget he'll have for 08-09. Hopefully he'll know by the beginning of May.

I've been applying for internships and also looking at different jobs and I got this phone call yesterday from this man in Alaska wanting to interview me for the archaeology intern position there! So we played phone tag a couple times and when he called me back last night to do the interview I was walking dogs, but I didn't not want to do the interview and then never be able to get back in touch with him. So we're talking and I'm walking the dogs and things are fine...then Alle (supposed to have the ` over the e, but I don't know how to do that) sees another dog and starts yapping...lol. So things are ok and we get home and I don't want the man to hear all the other dogs barking, so I let them go to the door because I think my dad is coming with another dog right behind me. Well Mabel and Alle go to the end of the porch and jump through the rungs to go towards my "dad". Turns out it was a man with a greyhound, which is the same size and everything as Luna, so I'm still on the phone with the guy from Alaska trying to do this interview chasing the dogs that always run away and apologizing to the greyhound man. Then I get them and my REAL dad is getting back at the same time and he thinks I'm coming in the house right behind him and leaves the door open and again Mabel runs to the end of the porch. So I stomp on her leash, and the poor thing falls to the ground on the OTHER side of the porch, then another dog, Rudy comes out of the open door to the house to say "hi" and I'm still on the phone with this man and the door is wide open. It is hilarious looking back on it. So I put my cell phone on mute and yell "dad!!!!!!!!" and he came and got the dogs. Phew.

Anyhow...the job is unpaid and is about 3 months. I won't know if I got it until probably next Wednesday or so. I told my mom and grandparents and everyone about it, and they're excited for me, but nervous too. It would be doing archaeology work in Glennallen, AK and I have to been trained in Swift Water Rescue and Fire Arms Protection (against bears). I'm not the best swimmer, but I'm going to try to take some classes before I go (thinking positively here) to brush up on it! Ew, that means a bathing suit, yikes!

But if I get this position I would be leaving the beginning of May and I really need to be in shape and well, buff. The work will be canoeing and carrying equipment and so I'll need to be in shape before I go not build up once I get there. My plan is to get a workout schedule together and do morning and night workouts. I'm not so concerned about weight loss, I need to lose about 20lbs, but if I didn't lose that 20, but instead was in shape and have a good body fat percentage I'd be ok with that!

I think that's all my news so far! Sorry for the long journal entry. Got to get ready so I can take my grandma to the commissary.

Wow. Lol at the dog escapades. Sounds like a scene out of a Disney movie! And a funny one at that! The Alaska internship sounds like a fabulous adventure! And the physical element will definitely bolster your efforts to lose weight and keep it off. Win/win. Best of luck on all fronts. Have a great day!

I'm sorry, but I couldn't help but laugh most of the way through that. That sounds like a really great opportunity, I hope you get it! Not to mention, that would be really great motivation and would keep you in great shape once you got there. I'm not sure how I feel about bears though. Good luck!

No Greg wouldn't come with me; it's only for 3 months or so, so no big deal. I'm excited and hope I get picked!

ONLY 3 months away from Greg!? You are a much more independent woman than I am...I envy that! I cried when my Ryan had to work nights once!

Well I'm not saying it won't be hard, but I think the experience is worth it. It's not like there won't be phone or email. My grandparents lived in Alaska for awhile 60 years ago and my grandpa was in the air force and had to go off one time for some training and he couldn't even get in touch with her to see if she was ok...so I'm glad it won't be like that if I go. I enjoy having Greg home and things, but you know sometimes absence makes the heart grow fonder! We get along better when we're not around each other all the time.
