I know you're not going to like this but screw the weigh in. I gained 11 pounds when I quit smoking and my doctor was thrilled. Yes, it put me at my highest weight but after I quit it was so much easier to lose the weight. I'm so proud of you (and I don't mean that in a condescending way); make quitting your top priority and then the weight loss. You can do it!

I am with Jenju...it's hard to tackle everything at once. If cigarettes and food are your two biggest vices, then to give them up all at once sounds pretty tough. I have no experience with smoking so I'll just ramble on your journal and you can take it with a grain of salt knowing that it comes from a nonsmoker. :) I just think that quitting smoking has more immediate benefits for your whole family. And you're still being mindful of your eating so I'm sure you won't go crazy. BUT if you wait to stop smoking after you lose weight, then you may gain weight then anyway after you've worked so hard to get it all off. I'm just amazed that you're doing both at once--you're amazing. You can do it. Look at what amazing things you are doing for your health! Yay, Ceebee!

I did this...you can do this...it's nasty and bad, and you don't need it! It's hard but woman you can do anything!!! Remember that! And chew gum, or flavored tooth picks, lol

You can do it! I quit 1/2010 and never looked back. Didn't gain any weight either! I actually lost more! I suggest exercise. Go and sweat that nicotine out of your system. Soon your breathing is going to improve and you'll be able to do things you never thought you could! Quitting smoking allowed me to take up running, something I NEVER thought I would do! You can do it!!!

Definitely don't worry about the scale. I quit smoking 2 years ago after smoking for 25+ years. Yes i put on some weight- 30 lbs to be exact- but quitting smoking gave me the tools i needed to lose weight. Getting healthy is a big committment and you are to be applauded for your efforts!! Try freeedom from smoking online (search that phrase and you should be able to find it) it is run by the american lung association. The people there are very supportive and the tools that they have are awesome. You can do this!! Remind yourself as many times as it takes that you are a nonsmoker. Eventually you will just know it and wonder why you didn't quit sooner.
