Journal de Pking, 13 juil. 10

Had a good 4 mile run this morning before it gets too hot. I was pondering on some things while running that I just want to throw out on here:

During your diet journey, whether a few months or years, what have you learned nutrition/health-wise that you didn't know before you started dieting?

Here's what I've learned:

-I learned that most of the foods I was eating was high in fats, sodium, sugar, and calories, but had very few if any nutrition like fiber, vitamins, calcium, etc.

-I learned that my body actually knows the difference between artificial foods vs. natural foods.

-I learned that it is very crucial to read labels & especially the ingredients of a product.

-I learned that the big scientific words on the ingredient label are simply chemicals and not actual foods.

-I learned that eating healthy w/o exercise is like having a high performance car....but with no wheels!

-I learned that my body is designed to eat from the earth, not from a food factory.

-I learned that most highly advertised foods should be eaten rarely if at all.

-I learned that the food industry wants my money first, and then care about my health last. Ouch!

-I learned that no matter how long it takes me to lose weight I'm still a lot better off than when I never tried.

-I learned that as a nation, close to 80% of Americans don't eat healthy & exercise. So that puts me with the 20% of folks who actually care about their health.

Wow, you learned a lot - you must really pay attention to your body, and thats really good. For me.... I learned that my body feels 100x better when its not being drowned by soda - water is WAY better for me. I also learned that you don't need to eat so much! The portions restaurants (or even your grandma! lol) give you, and what you THINK you need is so not what your body needs. What else... just reading what the calories are on some things - like when you go out to a restaurant and get a salad thinking your doing something good, and in reality, the burger covered in cheese and bacon are actually lower in calories! Its sad, but true!

Yep, for sure on the water. I used to be a very heavy soda drinker.

Yeah, I will say I know it may sound super yucky but I feel like I sweat better or the sweat seems like I realuse better stuff when I am eating right. Does that make sense, its like the energy is not there and the sweat seems like its more work to come out. I don't know if I am only one. Who knows maybe I am odd?

Loved your journal! I feel I've learned a lot, too, and even when I'm having a day that's a little off, I know I'm still doing SOOO much better than before! Glad I can be with you in that 20% group! Thanks for the encouragement on my running, too. :)

It was kinda hot but yep, it was a nice run. Good job on the treadmill run JustBreathe. Whether it's the tread or outdoors, running is still good.

Good info on the things you learned. I guess the main thing I've learned is that people are keeping a close eye on you when you tell them you're doing a diet plan.

That's so true VernK!! I'm always amazed how certain people at work come by my office around lunch just to see what I'm eating. lol

Thanks for sharing that journal. Very great info there! I especially love your insight that your body can actually tell the difference b/w artificial and real foods and how the big words on labels are actually chemical names. Wow, great insight. I don't think about that nearly as much as i should. Great job on your running too. Do you have any races coming up in the near future?
