Just got notified by PG&E (power company) that the power will likely be shut off in the next 36 to 48 hours because of weather conditions (high winds from the north). Sounds like it might be off up to 48 hours. This happened to me twice a couple weeks ago. Oh well, at least it will be cooler. Forecast is for the 70's or low 80's instead of the 90's. Hope I do a better job of eating this time.

When the power goes out I have no internet, no phone. Just my cell phone, but can't use it to go online. Wifi is through Comcast and my land line phone. It's so boring when the power is out. Maybe I'll go meet friends for lunch down in Roseville, if the power is on there. Looks like a huge area may be impacted.

How do you keep your food cold and frozen? You have a generator?

Liv - I haven't had problems so far. The ice in the freezer was still frozen (maybe a little melted). As long as I don't open the door to the freezer and fridge too much it's usually okay for a couple of days. I worry more about the food in the refrigerator. Last time I did throw out the eggs. I just bought a gallon of milk. I am filling up plastic bags with ice and will put in the refrigerator and freezer if the power goes out. I had been trying to clear out most of the food in the freezer for the past couple of months so there isn't too much I'm worried about

Ugh. You might consider filling the empty space in the fridge and freezer with water bottles which can help maintain coolness if the outage is extended. My last bad memories of PGE was when we got price gouged via Enron in the bay area. We moved away so thankfully no longer have to deal with them.

Melissa - this is getting old. Sounds like a very large amount of people could be impacted, much bigger than the last time. Jazzy - I might do that with water bottles, the fridge in the garage is full of cold gallons of water. I don't have much to worry about in either the freezer or refrigerators. I remember having rolling blackouts during the Enron period. Didn't have PG&E but still worried all the time.
