HELP WITH GOAL-SETTING

I'm trying to record some non-weight goals for myself, but really struggling! I am trying to make my goals specific and measurable, so goals like "being in great physical shape!" are not helpful for this, as I can't measure and know when I've achieved it. Something like "being able to run 5km in 35 mins" is definable, measurable, trackable and works much better (though it's not particularly inspiring).

Obviously reaching a certain weight is fine and is in there, but I find it's not truly motivating for me, as it's just a number, and there are plenty of people who are my ideal weight but aren't healthy. I don't want that weight unless it comes with great health, and I don't care if I never reach that weight if I am in great physical shape.

So wondering what you guys do to come up with your personal, health-related goals? Or if you are willing to share some of your own goals (long term milestones, especially), that would be helpful!

I would like to visualise myself achieving these goals but I have to know what they look like to do this!

You're on the right track, Raeliss. I would suggest you add a timeframe for your goal, i.e., "I can easily run a 5k in 35 minutes by April 30th, 2020," (or whatever date you choose). Some other non-scale goals might include things like, "I can comfortably zip myself into a size 12 pants by Easter," or "By, June 1st, I have walked a total of 100 miles," (pick a date and a reasonable distance for you). You might want to consider meditation to picture yourself achieving your goals - try to feel the feelings you would feel when they've been accompmlished. Who will be there to cheer you across that 5K finish line? What will they say to you? What will you be wearing? Picture it all in your mind as if it is happening right now. Whatever you can conceive and believe, you can achieve!

Hey Raeliss Can relate to your post I am just trying to walk further in the same time ! As in I set timer on phone to 25 mins Go for broke on the same walk I do each day and don’t stop till the timer goes off. I endeavour to get a little further each time Then I just turn around and have to try get home in the same time so the pace is consistent out and back It’s making me do a little bit of a jog in between. The goal is to be able eventually jog non stop the whole distance which is about 5km Want to do the run leg of a triathlon as part of a team Someone does swim someone does bike. Someone runs So that’s my goal at moment Just to be fitter. And obviously as the weight drops this will get easier Hopefully. Ha ha Good luck 😉

Thank you so much, both of you! You have both helped me set some actual goals for myself. Taking your advice with visualising, too, Debbie! The support in your thoughtful replies means a lot! xx
