Envy is so not pretty.

So my bff has been doing this weight loss thing with me on MFP since August. And she can go on a plan to lose .5 lb a week and lose 2.5 lbs, this is with no exercise plan or anything and really she has lost nearly as much as me in the same amount of time and she isn't that overweight. It should come off a little easier for me I would assume, especially being on a plan where I eatting enough calories to actually lose 2 lbs a week and that hasnt been happen in the past few weeks. I don't know if it is my PCOS or what. But I am simply frustrated because I see her now starting to work out, and knowing her numbers are going to be even more bigger than mine now, and I should be happy for her. Part of me is, but part of me is simply envious. blah blah *tiniest violin*

I know that feeling and it's really frustrating. I really don't have good advice for you, but wanted to let you know that you aren't alone and other people have the same jealousy for close friends. My BFF from high school lost about 30lbs over a summer. I found out she was actually having problems processing food and couldn't really eat much of anything. I guess I would prefer to lose slowly then that way. It's really hard to be jealous of someone and be happy for them at the same time.

instead of being envious, how about use it as motivation? sometimes friendly competition can be just what u need to jumpstart you!

Don't beat yourself up about her losing more weight than you - you're a different person to her and your body will react differently. It might be that you've reached a plateau or that you need to look at what your diet is consisting of. Its not just about calories in, but also what those calories are made of and how your body uses them. If you're eating 800 cals a day, of candy, your blood sugar will be sky high, you will be bloated, holding onto water weight and your liver and kidneys would be reacting badly. But if you were eating a mix of veggies, a little fruit, a little whole grains and plenty of protein, with a low salt/sodium intake, you would be looking and feeling much different. I'm not suggesting you are eating lots of sugar, but its a big culprit in weight gain/flab and as soon as you cut it out (and replace it with protein), it makes a big difference. So be honest with your diet, cut down on the salt and sugar, drink more water, if you can and try and up the exercise, even by an hour a week. Don't lose your motivation, you're doing great and you're being proactive. Just keep adjusting to suit YOU and your body, not your friends. Don't resort to a very low calorie diet, just keep your daily calorie intake fluctuating, so keep your metabolism revved. And we all have tiny violins, for such occasions - hasn't anyone told you - classical music is good for you! :P :D Good luck!

Oh my God Minnesota, you've lost 56 lbs thus far. Be proud of that!!! Wear that as a badge of honor and when you lose more feel even better about yourself. It's good that your friend is losing weight, but YOUR weight loss is all about YOU and how it makes YOU feel. Good for her, GREAT for you!

I know how frustrating it can be, I have a friend who just recently has lost 8 pounds in 2 weeks with out even really trying and it kills me because I have only lost 7 in 3 months and I have worked my butt off. I had to take a step back and re-evaluate everything, and yes she lost 8 pounds in 2 weeks, and I have only lost 7 in 3 months, but the amount of muscle I have gained is greater. I really wish I had done a fat test thing prior to starting this lifestyle so I could really say "I have lost XX pounds of fat and gain XX mass of muscle". Unfortunatly I never did that so I have no idea what the difference is. Your friends weightloss may also slow down now that she has started to work out. Just remember this is not a race, and that the slower you take it off the easier it is to keep it off!

Thank you all for your grounding and encouraging words. I compare myself to others way way too, and I hardly take the time to let it sink in where I am and what I should be happy for. I love this place :)

oops forgot the word *much. As in "I compare myself to others way too too MUCH." I needed to and need to fix that. :p
