Slowly my diet has turned into a bunch of rules for me to follow and I hate it. I need to get back to basics where I learn to enjoy food and count the calories. Instead I am eating tuna on a 50 calorie wrap almost every day and cottage cheese and egg beaters- I have like 5 things that I am eating repeatedly to try to "be good" and I don't know when that mindset snuck back in or if it really never left. But then I tire of it and next thing I know I am eating peanut butter on graham crackers because 90 calories tuna pouches really suck by day 4. So I went back to my diet calendar. I am so thankful that I have tracked every bite for so long. The last month that I felt I made great progress was probably August 2019- betcha thought I was going to say something in 2020 but it has been awhile. And so while I am still kicking ass at the gym- my eating sucks. In that month of progress- it was no tuna pouches. It was cotton candy and casseroles and spaghetti and normal shit and I just wrote it down and carried on and lost a lot of weight so fuck the Halo Top- back to the Ben n Jerry's and the calories of normal foods and not crap. My bio is like I am a big,fat hypocrite. Well not anymore. Normally when I eat 3000 or more calories- I fill out my diet calendar with low calorie grossness to see what I need to eat to get back to the right deficit- why did I start doing that? If I ate normal food- i wouldn't be in that cycle of feeling deprived. On a brighter note- I didn't gain anything so for the first time ever I am not starting from square one. Here's to more gains in the gym and losses on my waist. Now what's for breakfast? I'm thinking pancakes and bacon. 💗🤸🏻‍♀️💪🏻

It really is in your head. The word diet has the word diet in it. Throw out the "diet" and start with a lifestyle change. Keep counting calories (I do), and start making a commitment to drink more water, eat more veggies, watch your starches and simple carbs. Eat real food. Clean up you cupboard, by throwing out, (or giving away) all the processed foods. Put down the fork between bites. Take your time eating. chew slow and taste what you're eating. Its a little bit of effort for a lifetime of feeling better!!!

Absolutely correct Princess, there's nothing that says you can't eat well and lose weight (except when I eat too well and gain weight. LOL!!!).

Thanks for input, everyone. Yes Shirfleur! ❤️ Yes, CC- pancakes and bacon were good but I'm a sucky cook so not fabulous but better than tuna pouches on a low carb wrap. 😆😉

Yeah, I was looking back at what I was eating before quarantine when I looked best and it was a whole cake and pizza lol. Its all about the calories, protein, and lifting.

Eating low calorie is similar to doing too much cardio, eventually you get super hungry and make up for any so called progress you make. Cardio increases hunger and so does restricting too much.

Thanks, Charlie and Draglist! Yeah- I think my plan was successful but I started doing it wrong and taking something simple and making it hard.

Thanks for the honest post DP. I don't think nutrition is discussed often enough. When it is talked about, it is too frequently within the context of some restrictive diet. The more restrictive the diet the more the likelihood of setbacks and failure. IMHO, It's not about what we can't, won't, refuse and omit to consume. It's about what we do eat. Protein is the cornerstone and the foundation of good nutrition. I find that in striving to eat a balanced diet some days I eat more carbs and other days more fats. Neither seem to have much effect on weight control when the meals include adequate protein and CICO is practiced. That being said, eating excessive calories to reach an extremely high protein goal only works well for an elite few. Most people will store the excess protein and calories as fat if not used by muscles for repair and rebuilding. To avoid getting into an eating rut I try very hard to not eat the same meal two days in a row. To be honest with myself, I and almost everyone has their favorite goto foods that we know will work and fit in our way of eating. That's why I think it's important to seek variety. One of the best things about FS for me is that I find that it is helpful that here I have an opportunity to see what others are eating. I have learned of so many nutritious and tasty foods from the members here that I seldom find myself in a eating rut and needing an escape from my own way of eating. Thanks again and good luck!!!

Carbs, even processed food type carbs, when eaten occasionally as a component of an otherwise fairly balanced diet do not necessarily have to initiate uncontrolled cravings that make you go off the rail and pig out on everything in site.. the other thing is that when you routinely overeat to the point of being “Thanksgiving” full, your body and your brain interpret anything less than that painfully full feeling as true hunger. Thus the cravings, and never feeling full or satisfied. This is a well known, established phenomenon. Now you are in the realm of mental health related issues.

So totally love your honesty here! You’re toughest on yourself and so supportive of others. Never change that. Just be happy and healthy, in that order. The rest is small stuff 👊🏻👍🏻🙌🏻

I'm seeing some comments about carbs and how eating low-carb, high-fat foods instead is supposedly more satisfying and keeps hunger at bay. Sorry, but this isn't true. It's a myth that's repeated constantly in low-carb circles. I did low-carb. You can absolutely overeat butter, cream and bacon, even with nothing sweet or starchy in combination with them. The fat isn't satiating: the protein and fibre are what give you the sense of fullness. So processed fat (olive oil, cream, butter, ghee) and popular processed low-carb staples (almond flour, coconut flour, coconut flakes, erythritol/xylitol/monkfruit based desserts) are no better than processed carbs when it comes to satiety. Not everyone has to follow LCHF or keto, and most people don't, yet manage to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight.

LaughingChevre, exactly. The thinnest populations on earth eat a high carb diet. Bodybuilders are the leanest athletes and also have a high carb diet. It's definitely a myth that you need to go low or no carb to lose fat. If anything it's a detriment for most since it limits options and causes diet fatigue causing one to "fall off the wagon" and for anyone who lifts or workouts, fat is an overall inferior energy source.
