Having consumed a lot of calories already today (it's just past noon), I wonder what I'll have for dinner (?).

I want to eat more protein, but I can't have dairy products anymore and I'm not the type to eat meat all day long.

Guess I'll figure something out. :)

Right? I can't eat dairy either (or grains or eggs), so my food is restricted a lot. I wind up eating the same things every day: fruits, veggies, and a little chicken. I refuse to eat red meat. Where's the fun?

You can try different kinds of beans or nuts or small amounts of peanut butter

You can eat eggs or fish, or turn to vegetable sources of protein like a mix of beans and rice for example ;)

I like cottage cheese for protein when meat isn't an option. Nuts are a good choice, too!

tuna fish and multigrain tostitos is one of my favorites. :) With a little cracked pepper. Also I like the eas advantedge carb control protien shakes. I would say greek yogurt, but it's technically a dairy. It's super high in protien as well. :) Just a few of my favorite snacks!!

Don't go too hard on the tuna Kedrake18! they're high on the food chain and therefore subject to high concentration of heavy metals!

I don't eat much fish, and I don't go overboard with it. :P Once or twice a week or so. I also get burned out on it, then switch to other snacks for a week or two. I like to mix it up. Greek yogurt is my main goto, protein snack though. :P Mainly because I can prepare it in multiple ways. Smoothies, yogurt, pudding/cheesecake concoction I discovered... ;)

You can eat lots of it provided that it's at the bottom (or near the bottom) of the food chain ;) I know what you mean about getting burned out on fish. If it weren't for canned sardines I would almost not touch it lol. And even these sardines are not very easy to eat taste-wise :P but I sprinkle them with lemon juice and they become bearable ;). I can't eat yogurt without added sugar lol, and the ones which are already sweet usually have added sugar, so that's out of the equation for me at the moment since I'm on a sugar ban ;) When it comes to dairy, I usually go with cheese or milk, mostly milk. Oh desserts!... I miss them lol.

When I was low in protein, I would get this suggestion from my armband's website: Try beans and peas (kidney, pinto, black, or white beans; split peas; chickpeas; hummus), soy products (tofu, tempeh, veggie burgers), nuts, and seeds. They are naturally low in saturated fat and high in fiber.

Can you eat fish or shrimp? I might add 1 scoop of whey protein to a cup of water if I am low in protein for the day. The whey protein that I buy says two scoops will add 24 grams of protein to your diet, but I only need one scoop usually to meet the 46 grams of protein minimum. I eat a lot of veggies and usually a tablespoon of hummus.

It's definitely possible to stock yourself with vegetable proteins Deb! :) Beans and other grains are really great foods and, despite the fact that it is said you should mix beans with rice to get all the essential amino-acids, I now recall the researcher who was responsible for that idea a long time ago, recently saying that he or she was sorry that it was understood that way and that, whoever wants to get proteins from vegetables really doesn't need to worry about mixing the right kind to get all essential amino-acids (I've only recalled this now). I'm kind of divided on the subject of eating meat now lol since, although I've been basing my recent beliefs on a study that shows eating some meats is correlated with non-communicable diseases, thinking well, it is also possible that the reason for these diseases is related to artificially fed livestock. If this is the case, then there may be no reason to avoid meat like the plague. I'm reflecting on this at this moment. I am going to start eating more of it now anyway because I'm going to start weight training ;) Regarding saturated fat. I was just shown an amazing "cannot miss" video here on FatSecret talking about that and more very impressive information about weight loss. If you have the time, don't miss this: http://tinyurl.com/76afa7p

I don't know if I can eat shrimp or not, but I'm definitely going to eat it tomorrow or the day after lol. I have bought some already ;) Careful with protein supplements since they're not regulated. Some of those supplements have been shown to be contaminated with heavy metals and also to not possess the claimed amounts of protein. Meat may be safer ;)

When it comes to fish, by what I know, you're good as long as you keep to fish that are at the bottom of the food chain (usually the ones which only eat plankton). As for shrimp, I'm highly uninformed. I do know that shellfish can be dangerous because they also absorb lots of heavy metals and toxins (to the point where they are even banned for consumption in my country from time to time, depending on periodic analysis)...

I've also heard that farm-fish, despite not suffering from heavy metal contamination, doesn't have the same nutritional value of wild fish due to it's completely different diet provided by us ;)

Thank you for the suggestions, my friends. I always forget about seafood, but I love it. :)

You can't do that! (forget about things that you love) ;)
