If you know anything about tendonitis or deltoid injury, please come talk to me. I started having this agonizing pain back in May this year. I couldn’t do push ups today which was humiliating.

YF, All I can offer you is sympathy. This sounds like a job for Jimmiepop, Mermee, Melissatwa, Hebrews, Diablo or some other member of the lifting crew. Perhaps Kenna can offer some of her usual, no-nonsense sound medical advice. Can you still swim?

Mr Gastropod: Swimming has been hard, thank you for asking. No butterfly stroke for now 😭 I was never delicate in my life, I usually recover from injuries in 24hrs like a wild animal🤣 So having a body part that does not cooperate is very new to me, it is quite trying, and now I know what people are going through. I guess we learn every day, don’t we?

ugh. same here hon. normally a couple days and I'm good. this time it's been about 2 weeks on this deltoid. mine was work I think. the gym just made it worse. rest is no fun but it's better to not further injure anything. I tried pushing through but wasn't the best idea I had. form really is everything for me. granted setting new records is fun but listening to my body is better. I got greedy.

Andrew, did you say you work in healthcare? Me too, we push and lift heavy objects and heavy people with dead weight all day… after doing this for years I think my body is starting to fall apart. It’s not going to get better. So I was planning to push through and continue my workout, which already improved my back but not arms. Should I rest? I hate to stop now 😢

I have a screwed up shoulder. I'm very limited on many exercises . from experience; it won't get better if you do things that cause even the slightest pain or discomfort. I can't do push-ups either or barbell bench press. but can do incline pushups and dumbbell press (heavy). you have to find movements that work for you and completely avoid the ones that cause pain. if you say to yourself "this kinda hurts" just stop and move on , or else you'll be sorry for a month. I have a hard time even doing heavy lat pull downs. and any over head pressing.

Hey Rick that was very helpful. My “trainer” is 20yrs old and rather inexperienced, and he does not seem to know much about injuries. I am afraid he is going to play safe and I might not get much out of our sessions. So I appreciate every insight you could share with me. Thank you for the thoughtful response Rick.

Go see a doctor and find out what is actually wrong and THEN make a rehab plan

I'm not a doctor, but I can say this with confidence. "Pain is a meaningful signal from the body, so never exercise related to the painful area." If you feel pain or discomfort for a long time, be sure to see a doctor or a specialized institution. I hope you get better soon.🙏

Kenna, oh Kenna you🤣🤣 I did that already. Doctors couldn’t help and that’s why I am asking for insights from people who are in the similar predicament. Just curious how they cope.

ヤママユガさん、もう治らないと思います。お医者には診てもらいました。職業病です。かなり痛くて眠れない日もあります。大リーガーは一体どうやって故障中の肩のまま試合に出場するのでしょうか。そんなことをつらつらと考えています….

I don't want to discourage you, but it took me about a year to fully heal from severe tendonitis, with flare ups throughout when I didn't wear my splint/brace thingie. It DID heal though! Maybe with more diligence and care, it can heal sooner!

left nursing around 2016 but yeah the sedentary patients are rough. lots of heavy work. yes we had stand lifts and hoyers but still. lots of falls by large people. I do building maintenance now. lots of walking but also setting up tables and chairs. ladders and overhead wiring stuff. not sure what I did this time. it's better today. so I'll get back at it.

I only know the older you get the worse injuries feel & that I would trade in the young buck trainer for someone who understand the body & probably has a mature one 😂 who is confident to work with you & guide you through 💕 hope your pain eases soon xx

I've had several injuries over the last decade that took 6-9 months to fully heal. Patience and time were the best medicine. Shoulder injury took fully 6 months to heal. Plantar fasciitis took almost 9 months to heal. Knee injury took almost 4 month to heal. Time plus self designed program of physical therapy, allowed my body to do what it needed to do. Good luck! I know the frustration.

yfritz, most folks have given good advice ... you def should rest it or avoid any moves/lifts that stress the shoulder and cause pain. you can still have a decent workout without certain moves. is it more than the shoulder? is it a variety of joints - the tendinitis? i will tell you that all of my joints are sore, in varying degrees, every day. so if it your knees or elbows, back, shoulder etc. braces help. stretches help. but rest will help the most. and i agree with piggy, you need a more responsible, experienced trainer - who is acutely aware of all ways to lift in proper form, understands age/excessive injuries and how to work around them and keep your injury from getting worse. you can also use neutral grips (palms facing each other) in your moves, that are easier to perform, and less chance of injury. go slow, warm up dynamically, eat and rest for recovery and repair.

Final Heaven, you didn’t discourage me. It’s great to know that it will heal eventually. I dismissed most of the doctors recommendations because I didn’t think my shoulder would heal. You helped me become more open minded about it, so thank you, and Happy Birthday 🎉🎁

Andrew, I feel so much closer to you now. I am surprised by the number of male nurses I encounter here. I’m glad you are feeling better today. I’ll listen to my body like you said and I will rest my shoulder. Thank you. Btw I’ve been eating your version of yogurt-oatmeal parfait daily because I like it. Keep those meal ideas coming 👍🏼

Piggy he is 20 years old🤣 and I want him to succeed in life. I take his lessons seriously, which seems to help him feel more confident about himself. When I was a very young nurse, those older patients did not dismiss me because of my age or the lack of experience. It’s my turn to nurture the younger generation. We shall see🤣 Thank you for the kind words!
