You don't need for the gym to consume your life. It should enhance your life (by making you strong and healthy). You can do shorter, harder (more intense) workouts and burn the same calories you would with longer workouts. Adding intervals on treadmill, upping the resistance on eliptical, etc. Try cross training and trying new classes. So many out there. Find something that is fun and you enjoy. It makes exercise sustainable.
