Journal de Aimeejune, 10 mars 15

I just got done reading an article by Dr. Mark Hyman. He says that we should avoid dairy. And I am thinking hmmm..... a lot of my Atkins diet includes dairy, like the shakes, my Greek yogurt, cheese, etc. He said go all natural because of additive and preservatives. All I can think is WOW if this is accurate my diet my entire life has been wrong. What do you do to avoid what seems to be everywhere you go and on or in everything you eat. I have a large family. How would I transition them to a new life style. And the schools feed our children everything they "should avoid". Just a blabbering brain storm. I am done :)

Go natural and buy nothing labeled low fat/diet/reduced/etc. The best foods (whole foods) do not come with a label -- they are naked in the meat/produce, whole grain and dairy aisle. You can start by easing your family into it. For me, I just started buying fewer and fewer 'favorites'. But I would also make a good homemade dessert a couple times a week to take the edge off. In my experience, after a few weeks of clean eating, the packaged stuff and fast food starts tasting wrong. I will inbox you a starting point. <http://www.fatsecret.com/groups/the-new-flexitarian-(whole-food-4-life)/Home.aspx>

For me being on paleo- Dairy is in a grey area. If you can handle dairy- meaning with out getting bloat, gas, stomach issues, digestion issues, then try to buy grass fed dairy like butter, raw milk, grass fed cheeses, greek yogurt etc. All this you can buy from your local farms- do some online research- It sounds like a lot of work but if you want to keep dairy in your diet, you might as well make the effort to get all natural raw grass fed dairy without any of those nasty chemicals and preservatives. But if your someone who doesn't handle dairy well (to figure this out give dairy up for a few weeks then add in into your diet slowly to see how you react) then you might as well give it up all together. Some even claim when they are near their goal weight- the last 5 pounds- give up dairy and find that giving up the dairy helps them reach their goals But this is all trial and error- everyone is different! But that is my take on dairy from the research I have done.

I know what you mean. I gave up dairy and all grains (starch and sugars) and feel terrific without it. I am used to it and do not miss it at all.

Agree with Panigale if you're keeping dairy. I spent a little over a month learning diff in milks, etc. a quick recap here <http://www.100daysofrealfood.com/2012/06/07/milk-101-whole-raw-organic-low-fat-etc/> this resource and other more scientific ones. Of course, I'm still figuring it all out and could end up dairy-free in the future if that works for my body.

dairy isn't my friend. I am going to start slowly cutting it out and see what happens. I appreciate all the feed back. Thanks to all of you:)

And those damn life saver gummies. I am addicted. I am a ex smoker and I still get that anxiety sometimes. Sugar isn't as bad as a cig but I gotta find a new filler lol

Maybe you could fill in with some nuts rather than the gummies--even some dark chocolate-covered almonds.

I do snack on almond a lot, but I will try the dark chocolate ones. good idea!

I've pretty much just tried to focus on eating whole foods instead of processed stuff. That is surprisingly hard to do these days.
