Journal de Sadaro Dawn, 28 févr. 23

So I'm morbidly obese. This wasn't a choice I necessarily made for myself. I have chronic/severe asthma and chronic back and hip pain. Funny how one doctor told me there was nothing wrong with me, that I was just fat. Over the last 10 years I've basically lived on steroids. If my family doctor wasn't putting me on it for my asthma, my orthopedic surgeon was putting me on it for the pain in my hips and back. The side effects have devastated my life! I was always a bigger person, but I was never this big!
Today I refuse to go back on steroids or to listen to my Orthopedic surgeon, who says that I can't exercise.
I am trying to count calories in order to hold myself accountable on what I'm eating. As time goes on, I will be doing more low carb than anything. I know I can't look at this as a diet. I have to look at it as a lifestyle change. I'm tired of looking at myself and hating what I see. Hating what I've become. At 41 I should be comfortable with who I am, but I'm not. I think it's time to start changing that.
I appreciate any support, suggestions, and tips.

Going low carb was the best thing I’ve ever done for my health. You’ve got this.

Low carb has worked good for me in the past, the best thing you can do is to not reward yourself for being “good” all week and then overeat on the weekend, it’s a marathon not a sprint and doing that sabotages your results.

Have you tried following Dr Ken Berry's BBBE challenge? That's Beef (or any kind of ruminant animal), Butter, Bacon, and Eggs. It's not necessary to track your calories. Just ONLY eat those items, nothing else. Eat only at mealtimes, no snacking between meals. No restrictions on how much food you can eat. Just eat until you're comfortably full. Alot of people who do this also practice intermittent fasting, only allowing themselves a 6 to 8 hour window, or less, for meals, and usually only 2 meals per day. If you eat enough at your first meal, you may find yourself less hungry, and decide to skip the 2nd meal. Thus you end up doing OMAD (One Meal A Day). No meals within 2 to 3 hours of bedtime. Challenge yourself to do this for a full 30 days. And, if you feel you've benefitted from it, you may choose to continue it for 60 or 90 days. The key is to remember you're first and foremost doing this for your health, and secondly to lose the weight. As Dr Eric Berg says "It's not lose weight to get healthy, it's get healthy to lose weight". Be sure to drink plenty of water, and take daily electrolytes, because youll start losing excess water weight quickly, and your body's electrolytes will be lost along with the water weight. You'll need to replenish them, or you could end up with leg cramps, or just feeling dehydrated. Some people also drink coffee and/or tea with this. But no sweeteners, and no diet drinks. I find it also helps to vary the volume of food you eat from day to day, so your metabolism doesn't get stuck in a rut and try to hold on to everything, thinking that's all it's going to get. After the 30 60, or 90 days, just go back to your low carb or keto way of eating, gradually introducing low carb non-starch veggies a little at a time, and eventually occasionally a few low carb fruits, such as berries. And remember, it's best not to eat carbs and fats at the same meal.

I completely understand. I’m kind of in the same boat. Just discovered I’m insulin resistant and started trulicity today. Hopefully it with a better diet can slow down diabetes

Do you have a doctor you can ask what type of eating plan would be best for you to lose weight? A high fat diet as suggested may not be good if you have gallstones, or high cholesterol or heart issues. My doctor recommended an anti inflammatory diet for me and preferably, low fat after having my gallbladder removed.. There are so many ways to lose weight and it's best to figure out what's best for your health issues.

Hey, I'm 225, just starting my journey. Good luck and lets roll downhill together!! I'm doing boneless skinless chicken and veggies. Going to add coffee with liquid creamer. That is all the sugar I will have. My problem is sweets.

I lost 100 pounds at 47 years old - my knees were going bad but are much better now and I can run. Take small steps - start small and increase exercise as you can tolerate it. Low carb and cutting processed foods work for me - think lean proteins, veggies, and fruit. Sugar is definitely my enemy as well. Good luck!

Good afternoon! Hope you're having a good day. I haven't been here long but I absolutely love this group. I'm doing a change in my life and have been since January 4th of this year. My start weight was 273. I cook everything I eat. No processed sugar or food. I do not know if you're a Christian or not non of my business but this is the first time I have ask Jesus for help. I have struggled with my weight almost my entire life. And have lost that struggle every time. You can do this!! we all here will help you and support you!! Remember baby steps with the exercise. I walk plus warm up and down with stretching. I started with 5 minutes of stretching then walked for 10 minutes and 5 more minutes of stretching. Starting out go slow until your body is use to it. Speed wise I started slowly and worked my way up. Then I added 5 more minutes of walk time. Just keep working up 5 minute increments at a time. please feel free to follow back. I wish there was a chat on here. Hope this helps!! Good day

I've been reading the comments and you have such good support and suggestions here! I noticed you said you were going low carb..I watch my carbs as well but no keto. I eat a lot of protein because I workout a lot but my nutritionist has me at 100 carbs a day and between 40-50 grams of fat a day. I lost over 50 lbs. I saw Fritzy suggested an anti inflammatory diet and I think that is excellent advice. She does well on it. My best advice is to find a plan that works best for you, plan and prep, and log everything! It will help you tremendously!

I’m glad you’re here. Meds can really take a toll on a body. You are taking a step in the right direction. I gained 90-100 pounds just from the meds I’m on but with calorie counting and light yoga, I’ve lost 60 pounds. It’s not been easy but it’s worthwhile and I’m much healthier too. You’ve come to the right place
