Heads up to those watching their grocery bills. We spotted a headline this morning about which foods they're expecting to be in short supply in 2023: bread flour, corn, vegetable oils, baby formula, and canned pet food. There may be others, but those were the 5 we spotted

Interesting on corn and too bad on baby formula for those who need that.

Don't like the thought of not being able to find canned pet food. If something I eat is in short supply I can just get something else. But my dog eats dog food and the cats eat cat food. My cats HAVE to have canned food and won't let me sleep if they haven't had it. The dog will eat anything.

It keeps a while, doesn't it Fritzy? Maybe you could stock up now. We're stocking up on flour

I don’t eat any of that stuff except for corn, so guess I’ll be fine. I have had to switch hot sauces since there’s no sriracha for now, but it’s been good taste testing 😋

We have known and been warned for almost a year that we we to expect many food shortages in our future. It was expected to start in November but here we are just beginning to feel the real affects. You can add many medications, like asthma and diabetic meds, and onions to your list. Between the shortage and the staggering price increases coming it is going to be a tough time. Gas is hitting $5.50 a gallon in my area. Some expectation of going to $7 a gallon again.

I have enough powdered milk, flour, beans, powdered eggs, oat meal type hot cereals to last a couple of years. Also canned vegetables like pumpkin and green beans, spinach and tomatoes, beef, vegetable and chicken stock, tuna, sardines, canned salmon. Don’t stock up on MEALS, stock up on ingredients.

Macaroni, instant potatoes and rice. You Keto people may have to get real creative.

This is just crazy. Prices keep going up and shortages are happening

There is no reason for them, I suggest ignore the headlines. The egg shortage was made out by headlines to be way way worse than it actually was. No egg farmer was getting any of those higher prices that were being charged! The only one I would say makes sense is the baby formula. @Kenna Morton you got it right!

The egg shortage, like the baby food issue was a different situation entirely . There was a reason. The eggs was because of the Avisn flu and the baby formula due to a contamination problem in the primary production factory in ZEALAND, Michigan. Apparently there are only just a few formula factories in the USA. Different issues not easily resolved with some of these other foods and products.

Cstrutz. I took it seriously partly because this isn’t my first rodeo and partly because I researched behind the scenes to vet whether this was just fear mongering or a real issue and then I started buying shelf stable foods with solid nutritional value, things with long expiration dates.

there are some interesting predictions from Zeihan on Geopolitics (Peter Zeihan). he's not always right, and admits it, but he's a generalist and has some fascinating takes on where the world is going in bite size pieces. YouTube and books.

Fresh produce will be impacted by the droughts. Other produce by flooding. We can expect shortages in areas we have not considered yet. Scientists have been telling us this for decades, and this is just the beginning.

I was watching something yesterday. I don't usually watch this particular person but there wasn't anything else of interest so decided to watch him. The man who has his own show spent the complete show talking about dogs and cats that have been giving up their pets. They are getting overrun now with too many. Some of the reason is people during COVID got pets and now they don't want them. But I think the other part is they either can't afford to pay for the food (especially larger dogs) or they can't find it. My friend in Michigan said that they have been having difficulty locating food for her granddaughter. She had to be on formula for a longer time for some reason. The shortages are real. I feel for both of these groups because what are they to fall back on for their children or pets. How scary if you can't find what you desperately need. Interesting discussion.

Sorry couldn't see all those errors. I apologize. I don't do comments too much.
