It's so hard to eat in moderation sometimes! Had to travel to the city to visit the doctor, and fast food was kind of the only option. I guess today will be what I call a feast day. I rarely go over my calorie limit but sometimes I think it's good to let yourself relax with it. I feel like calling it a cheat day implies there's something inherently wrong with it - but I think it's healthy to take some days off, especially if this is something you want to keep doing for the rest of your life.

Call it a “diet break” or a “treat meal” and frame it in a positive light. 😉 If i know I’m going somewhere that has limited options, I like to pack a “just in case” meal or snack(s) for the journey. Sometimes I’ll get the take-out, sometimes I’ll stick to my snacks, but it is nice to give yourself the option.

That's a really good idea too. Didn't have the chance to pack a snack for this trip but it'll be a good idea for the future! 💜💜

I completely agree, for it to be sustainable there has to be some flexibility. I also learned quickly as a mom to a little one to always have snacks on hand (even something small in my purse!) when my son gets “hangry” lol. I apply the same strategy for myself now too!

Another good choice for “road food” is grocery stores. They usually have a good selection of healthy and not so healthy ready to eat hot or cold options. And you can usually get a meal at a store cheaper than a restaurant, so added bonus! When I was last road tripping through Alberta, some of the best takeout BBQ came from a grocery store, and not the restaurants. Maybe the ones near you are worth checking out too? 🤷🏼‍♂️

I wish that was the case up here, but groceries up north are REALLY expensive. It's pretty much always more affordable to go with fast food. But it's a great suggestion! And keeping a snack on you is a great idea. It's cool how much we can learn from kids.
