collagen powder and a tsp of coconut oil in my first-in-weeks of home brew. Mellow, gentle on tum and a nice change from my usual spiced-up healthy green tea.

Sorry Protein, I guess I'm just not that fancy. The grape tomatoes are cut in half, but I don't see any point in cutting up the banana.

Lol, FatD1960 your fancier than I would be I probably just would have sliced off the avocado and eating the tomatoes on the side beside the toast. Is a very busy mom I would have just been happy to consume when I could as fast as I could and shove it my mouth. The fact that you took the time to place it together and make it a little look pretty it's fancy enough for me. As for using paper plates for convenience and quick cleanup that's a personal choice I don't really see that that's any of their business. It would be different if you're trying to entertain guests or if you were worried about the expense but since it's your pocketbook and they don't pay your bills I hardly see it's any of their concern or mine for that matter. ^~

OK, have to weigh in (sorry, can't help it) on this food-prep and serving thing. I recently realized that I have come to enjoy washing dishes. Not in 1000 years would I have believed that as an kid who felt abused by having to do that. I did have a dishwasher for several years of my marriage when I had a family of five + any guests, and it was helpful. I too was a working mother, an OB nurse. Now I am a family of one. I enjoy making a nice presentation--always for guests but not necessarily when eating alone. Presentation can be a big cheer-up exercise because it's an outlet for creativity. Taking time to prep our food from scratch is an automatic brakes on just rushing to eat. But, Leah_guffey, I missed many a meal at work and sometimes at home too. We do the best we can do within our own constellation. And another point about handwashing dishes...it's the only time my hands get warm, something an automatic dishwasher is no good for eh. Ok, another point: At an informal family get together, my d.i.l. and son served the buffet-style meal on paper plates. My ex was in attendance and as per his routine, expected to be waited on (NOT by me ;-)). D.i.l. did that and took it to him. He looked at the plate generously filled with delicious things and said, "I don't eat off of paper plates." My d.i.l., bless her, replied calmly, "Well, ok then," and took it back out to the table and set it down. Permanently.

@GopherIt2, He sounds like a real peach 🍑... Good thing to get rid of lol. Well you know what they say good riddance to bad rubbish LOL! Well I'm glad you found some enjoyment in washing the dishes I'm afraid although I do them I'll never enjoy them. Personally I can't feel the water anyways one of the things about my MS symptoms is I have neuropathy in my hands and feet so I don't feel much sensation, hot or cold so I have to be careful not to burn them or to use too cold to water so the dishes don't get cleaned properly, duh 🙄. I also have to sit in a tall chair often times because I'll get very fatigued after work and it's a little embarrassing. But I make do and I get them done one way or another. I think your daughter-in-law showed a lot of temperance and patience for not saying anything negative to him but rather sitting the plate down and continuing along her way what a wonderful woman for being such a great and patient person with him especially after serving him. What a good hostess she was.

Leah, isn't neuropathy weird stuff! Your dish-washing experience is another example of someone (you) not knuckling under, doing as much as they can with what resources they have. My neuropathy is from other causes and only partly exhibits with lack of feeling, also numbness, sharp needle-stick pains in random places and equally bothersome, in my feet being hypersensitive. Having my DPM do my nail care is a bit of an unpleasant time for both of us! I've tried sitting on a stool to do dishes and prep food but I'm so stinkin' short that the water runs down to my elbows. I just have to stop and come back later if back, knees, or ankles/feet don't cooperate. I'm incredibly thankful that I'm retired and can function on my own timeline usually. More power to ya!!
