The latest concoction. I prioritize fermented foods, so this was yogurt whey, frozen blueberries, black grapes and...homemade sauerkraut. May sound strange, but it was refreshing

as far as sauerkraut goes, I've come to learn that it's only probiotic if one makes it themselves. anything store bought has to be pasteurized and therefor the probiotic part of it is killed. have you heard that as well?

That's my understanding, steveputer, at least with the standard supermarket brands. I've seen a brand that I think is called Bubbie's up at Natural Grocers that's supposed to still have the probiotics. I've also heard that even if you're eating fermented foods that no longer have the live cultures, there are still some benefits. Sourdough and tempeh, for example, both are cooked before eating, but the fermentation process still changes the food in beneficial ways. It's my understanding sourdough affects blood sugar differently than yeast bread. TRUE sourdough, that is. A lot of what is sold in stores is basically yeast bread with sourdough flavoring, not a true fermented food.
