Open question to all my FS buddies. Please look at my dietary log. Why am I not loosing the weight? I know I like my mayo, dry salad is gross...it's light mayo, olive oil based (I have some cholesterol issues ). I consume around 1000 calories a day. I exercise, and I have an active lifestyle. Why is the weight NOT COMING OFF!

Is it possible you are eating to few calories per day? I have actually increased my calorie count significantly over the last few months, n have found I am maintaining the weight I've lost in the past year. I admit I haven't lost any weight in a while but I haven't had any big increases either. I was told by my Dr that as a 63 yr old woman I should never eat less than 1200 calories per day. I was probably around 800-1000 at that time. Might be worth talking to you Dr about it.

I started eating more calories and it’s helping me lose weight also.

1000 calories a day might be too low. An occasional 1000 calorie day is ok but you might want to try to average a little higher.

Takes time. Make sure you’re getting enough protein, drink water, walk. Don’t give up, keep going 💪

Thanks for the input. I'll think on it. I'm not hungry, I have no real cravings, I've been to the doctor. When I was consuming more calories, I immediately gain weight, sometimes 3 lbs over night....not kidding. Thanks for the ear people, I'll hang in there.

Also, remember, you can’t gain 3 lbs overnight! In order to gain 1 lb of fat, you would need to consume 3500 calories OVER AND ABOVE your normal maintenance calories in a day! So in order to gain 3 lbs of fat, you would need to consume 10500 calories over and above your maintenance calories. Looking at your log, you have lost weight since you started your journey and that is something to be proud of. The others are right, if you cut back too much, you can gain weight not lose it. Also, we all have to be realistic with weight loss goals and time frames.

How do you measure your food? Do you weigh your mayo(and all food but fats especially) on a scale? If not you might be eating a lot more calories than you think. Also your weight can fluctuate a lot throughout the day depending on when you eat and how hydrated you are. Does not mean that you are gaining fat. 3lbs overnight is not a big deal. Weigh yourself everyday at the same time and then take an average… and then see if the average weight per week is trending downward over time. And for exercise are you doing any strength training? Having as much muscle as you can will be your best friend when trying to loose weight.

Make sure your sleeping 8+ hours a day. Any less won’t be so good for you unless you have a different sleep type

If you significantly lower your daily caloric intake to lose weight, your body goes into "survival mode" eventually and will slow your metabolism. To counter this happening, the best approach is to fluctuate how many calories you eat in a day but try average it over the week to be within a reasonable deficit. I aim for 1,350 as this is around my BMR, so about 300-500 less than I burn in a day.

How could consuming more calories help me loose weight?

Hi! I agree with others that you should be eating more calories, it should be around 300 calories less than what you burn (you can use smart watch to see the exact number of calories burned). If you only eat 1000 calories every day might mean that you have mental health issues and you are “demonizing” the food and in that case I strongly suggest to work closely with a physiologist, it really helped me out and I am sure that it could help you too! And remember the big 4: food, sleep, exercise, stress. If one of those is not ok, the weight might not go down or come back quickly. Best of luck!
