Journal de Kppgreen, 27 mai 16

I don't think this will be popular but I really feel like I need a scheduled day/meal where I will allow myself the carbs/sugar. I have been very strict with myself lately and I kinda feel like I'm going to be impulsive if I don't allow myself something. Are there guidelines I should follow?

I'm a little afraid that I'm like an alcoholic and I just want one drink... just one, and then it gets out of hand. But then again the fluctuation in carbs may help? I don't know.

I'm trying to be smart, listen to my body and maintain control of impulses. Any advice?

Mahjohn has historically been one of the most helpful and intelligently persuasive posters here. His posts are generally worth a read, at any length. @Kppgreen, if I'm remembering correctly, your husband is a chef. It seems to me that might give you a different familial relationship with food throughout your life together that you'll need to factor into your life eating plans in some way. You might need to build in a little more flexibility than others need.

Didn't see how long that comment was till now..... But yeah, agree that sugar is more addicting than cocaine and we can legally dose every few hours to get our fix, and as with cocaine, some people are more sensitive to its effects. The difference is that you are surrounded by sugar in almost all foods everyday. At 5'7", kppgreen is overweight but not by much. Being able to have a night out our a night off her diet will help keep her focused the other days of the week.

Ask for advice and thou shalt receive! Lots of great suggestions and plans listed, what works best for you? My plan only includes treats on those special events for now. I am still along way from my goal and am on a good run...want to see it continue! When I "need" something, I have a almond butter chocolate fatbomb which is still on plan, sweet with great mouth feel. Super easy to make also :) Doesn't matter whether its popular or not!

@Mahjohn I'd never heard of "Carb Night", but it make sense from a Paleo point of view. Our ancestors did go through periods of "feast or famine", so our bodies are naturally adapted to carb feasts periodically. I will research this more, and possibly try it. Thanks!

Until we can format paragraphs in the comments boxes, there will be long blocks of text where complex ideas are expressed. Am interested to see where you go with this and what the long term outcome will be.

Do it if you need to have it to control not bingeing. Schedule it in. Don't go over calories. If you're keto... someone else will have to speak to it.

Do you know about carb nite? Since I've been on the lchf diet, 2 times I ate dessert in the evening (not exactly the criteria for carb nite, but I did get out of ketosis). Both times, I lost more weight the following week. I am thinking of having a modified carb nite once a week. http://fitlivingfoodies.com/what-is-carb-nite/

After 15 years of dieting, this is the only way I can stay on track. Allowing myself daily treats. When I used to do elimination diets, I'd binge weekly and spin my wheels.

I guess I shouldn't call them treats or cheat foods, they are just part of my daily calorie intake. Also, to each their own, but I cannot do low carb. Nope. Just zero advantage in my eyes.

I think the plan that works for any given person is where the advantage comes in. CICO gives you an inherent advantage because having full run of the table keeps you on track. I can't eat the stuff you eat without going on a psycho feeding frenzy, an inherent disadvantage for me.

I am like Phil in that sense. If I eat simple carbs I don't eat just one. I eat the whole bag.. potato chips kill me. I love them and crave them at times, but my blood sugar hits the roof when I indulge. . . .For a treat in the evening, I sometimes eat dark chocolate. I found a Falize brand of 74% cocoa with sea salt that is out of this world. I know.. salt with chocolate? One of my friends just rolls her eyes and won't try it.. More for me... Good luck with your scheduled treat...

you got this. Sugar in moderation while fitting in your calorie intake plan is a must. Get out of the push-pull cycle. my 2 cents worth.

Sugar is never a must. (I assume we are talking about cane or beet sugar added to foods and not the sugar your body pulls from starch.)

@LadyinDenim: It depends on how you want to make use of it. Insulin is your primary fat storage hormone, and it is controlled by sugar. To user it to For you and not against you, you need sugar. Outside of wanting to control insulin and control the uptake of amino acids and proteins to cells, the body had no need for exogenous carbohydrates and will function perfectly on fats and proteins.
