Peanuts are a great low carb snack but did you know that there is a 55 calorie difference between 50g of Simba Salted Peanuts and 50g of Safari Salted Peanuts ???

I always bought the Simba brand but on my last purchase I bought Safari as the Simba one was out of stock. Surprisingly, the Safari brand is lower in carbs and calories than the Simba brand.

Upon comparison I noticed that Simba uses refined vegetable oil(palm fruit and maize germ)whilst Safari uses unhydrogenated vegetable oil(palm oil and sunflower seed).

Just wanted to share this info since 50 calories can be huge to some of us who are following specific targets.

1973 kcal Gras: 107,35g | Prot: 192,95g | Glu: 47,72g.   Petit Déjeuner: Tap Water, Green Tea. Déjeuner: Chicken Giblets (Roasting, Simmered, Cooked), Fried Egg with Fat, Coca-Cola Coke Zero. Dîner: Coca-Cola Coke Zero, Cooked Beetroot (from Fresh), Beef Fat, Beef Steak (Lean Only Eaten), Simonsberg Traditional Feta. Snacks/Autre: Safari Peanuts, Pro Nutrition Whey Fusion Hardcore Protein Powder - Chocolate/Strawberry/Vanilla Flavour, Jungle Oats. plus...

Interesting! I LOVE the Safari peanuts. I always thought it would be higher in calories and fat because they taste more fatty (which is yum). This is good to know. I am the peanuts fan and hubby the peanuts & raisins (I don't like anything interfering with my love of nuts). Strangely the Safari P.nuts & Raisins are not as nice as Simba's. Must be their choice of raisins

You all are welcome :) I love sharing information. Something so simple as roasted salted peanuts is taken for granted that they are the same thing irrespective of brand. This is an ideal example of why we should compare food labels when buying foods to help us make better choices. Remember, to work out the calories of any packaged food you must take the Energy(kilojoules) and divide it by 4.2 and it will give you the calories. Our South African regulations require all packaged foods to have a per 100g column in the nutritional information table so that consumers can compare products. Be aware that brands stipulate different serving sizes so that can cause you to get the wrong info if you compare just serving size calories. Simba states 50g per serving and Safari states 40g per serving therefore for comparison purposes one needs to look at the per 100g column to compare fairly.
