I've learned that I cannot do diets that limit what I can eat, I have to be able to eat like a normal person (which I actually cannot do due to the fact that I take a certain kind of medication, an MAOI, which severely limits the foods that I can eat. I just looked it up again: No alcoholic beverages, No bananas, Fermented bean curd, fermented soya bean, soya bean pastes, soy protein, tofu, cheese, Ginseng, Fish, most protein supplements, non-fresh meat, processed meat (ie salami, sausage, bologna, etc...), sauerkraut, shrimp, soup, yeast, avocados, anything with caffeine, chocolate, dairy products, nuts, raspberries, tomatoes, spinach, beets, corn, cucumbers, eggs, figs, mushrooms, pineapple, raisins, salad dressing, wild game... (relooking at the list I realize that I have eaten a lot of these foods, will have to be more careful.) But looking at the list, wtf am I supposed to eat!?! Especially since I am a vegetarian during the week (I spend weekends with my parents and there I eat whatever they are eating).

405 kcal Gras: 15,94g | Prot: 22,94g | Glu: 41,58g.   Petit Déjeuner: Espresso Coffee, Driscoll's Blackberries. Déjeuner: Sea Queen Imitation Crab Meat. Dîner: Egg, Daiya Cheddar Style Shreds, Popsicle Sugar Free Popsicles. Snacks/Autre: Coconut Water. plus...

Where did you find that list? Did it come from the pharmacy? If not, ask you doctor because they can advise you on your particular case. Websites have to include everything anyone has had a single issue with - but that doesn't mean you will. I did that when I came home from the hospital because websites excluded every possible thing I could eat as I was on 17 meds when I was released.

This list was given to me by my doctor...

I don't want to sound weird, but I am really happy to hear you sound irritated. Anger gives us energy and power when we channel it correctly. My suggestion: Make a copy of the list the doctor gave you. Use a yellow highlighter on all the foods you WANT to eat. Next to each highlighted item, write in an acceptable substitute. Cucumber = zuccini. Raisin = craisin. I see good things for you ☺

I'm most concerned about where to get my protein. No eggs, No dairy, No nuts, No soy, that doesn't leave a lot of options.

Legumes: lentils, pintos, red beans, black beans, black eyed peas. I think there are many middle eastern traditional dishes with lentils. I love Indian food. It is vegetarian, and many dishes with no soy. To make the proteins complete, they are combined with a grain of some sort.

Except because of my IBS I'm supposed to limit fiber, legumes have lots of fiber. However, I don't think that I have much of a choice as all other protein sources are off-limits.

Does your doctor realize what kind of catch-22 situation thus puts you in? Does he/she even think about these things? I went to an Integrated Medicine provider. It's covered by insurance, unlike pure Functional Medicine. Allopathic providers are oriented toward symptom management, not healing, unfortunately. I feel your frustration. It's valid.

We've talked about switching medication because of this situation. The problem is that I cannot be put on another medication in another class for 4 weeks after stopping the current one. Then the new one would take 4-6 weeks to kick in, which means that I will have no medication support for over two months which would likely lead to a crash and me in the pysch ward. Again. And that is not someplace I want to be ever again. (I've been there more times then I can even begin to count, and I don't want to go back)

Keep strong!! I know you will work it all out. I understand your medication change problem. I wish things could be different. Praying God will bless you with the correct choice with this hard medication problem.

Alanna, I see you facing this squarely and maturely. You have a firm grip on the reality of your difficult situation right now. Hearing your struggle gives me strength to stop indulging due to circumstance. You are a good example for me. I am blessed to be counted among your buddies.
