I started doing a cheat day every two weeks but eventually I dropped it to having one meal of less healthy food and maybe a big dessert on the weekend. I think in the early weeks/months of a diet its good to have a day where you don't worry so much about what you eat. But I'd still keep an eye on the volume of food you eat. I also do believe that when you start hitting plateaus in your weight loss, the weekly or bi-weekly cheat meal may help you break down through that plateau after putting on a pound or 2.
