FML!

I hate to complain, on here and on facespace. I guess its wanting to see positivity and nice things. But here goes nothing..

Well, my foot which I have mentioned was causing problems and hurting turned out to be a full Achilles Tendon rupture. So I had surgery on new years eve! Yay/Boo! It was horrible. The hospital here is iffy at best too. Imagine laying on the operating room table and watching the nurses argue about what position the patient (me) is supposed to be in. It was amusing and terrifying at the same time. Luckily the guy with drugs put my mind at ease not long after, and knocked me out.

Anyway they opened up my leg and stitched the tendon back together. For the next two weeks I am essentially off my feet, and out of work (so much for my routines). At the hospital the food was horrid, think prison food, or worse. Breakfast was an omelet, bread, tea. Lunch was horrid chicken, bread, jello, tea. Dinner was worse than lunch. Even the jello was bad, I dont know how that is possible. Luckily my wife brought me sandwiches and doughnuts. I did not have much of an appetite, but needed something.

The pain the 1st 24 hours was horrid too, and they dont give proper pain meds here in the middle east. I did get a few injections of something "good" that took the edge off, but I feel I was in way too much pain than I should have been. Luckily after 24 hours the pain subsided nicely. As long as I keep my foot elevated it is hardly noticeable now (2.5 days after).

I have euro style crutches that don't go under the shoulders. Its quite a workout for me to tote around my ~250 body and hop on right foot. Just going to pee is like a full workout and causes pain in my footy! I have not had a proper shower in 4 days now, nor have I taken a proper bowel movement. Although my coffee from this AM seems to be making that happen as we speak.

So, as far as fatsecret and my journey is concerned, I have quite a challenge ahead. I want badly to stick with it. I sort of feel like I have lost weight through this ordeal. I have a 5-10LB immobilization boot on my foot that is not coming off for two weeks minimum. I get stitches out at that time and that's when I feel safe taking it off. So not sure when I can weight in, or even if I can. I cannot bear weight on that foot for a few months.

I reckon I need a gratitude list today, but I am not feeling it at all.

Today I am grateful for:
My family who is taking care of me nicely (too good in fact calorie-wise)
Philippina nurses who are sweet, gentle, and took good care of me in hospital.
My patience, which is getting more tests today
My kitty Pearl, who does not know what to make of my laying around, my crutches, or my boot.
Having a job where I have ample sicktime so this is not a problem.
The military, who sent many visitors to check on me, I wont look into why they care, but they do for some reason.
My friends who sent many well wishes
TV!
Video Games!
Laptops!
Fatsecret food journal, which will be my saving grace.

Sorry for bringing my pitty party to the game, but i have to have an outlet. I think this place is for my wellness..

/Cheers, JP

That's quite a challenge, you got the JP. Regarding the weigh-ins, I would simply go do one, and register it with a note about it being with the boot. Then, keep doing as you always do, accept the "weight gain" - and of course know that it's NOT a fat gain (duh!), and then bask in the glory of a "massive weight loss" when it comes off. That way I'd think you were to stay more real and true to yourself during weight loss efforts throughout wearing the boot. Remember, exercise is NOT the essential thing when it comes to losing weight. Food control is. You still have plenty of ways to do that. Just don't give up. Don't "pause until you can get going again". You can still be going, and there is no need to NOT go. :)

Thanks kingkeld, that's a good idea actually. I will do just that. Once I can take the boot off in a week or so maybe I will weigh it. I know its heavy. My wife is overfeeding me trying to take good care, I had to discuss this with her. Thanks for the support!
