I've decided to try new ideas for this year and experiment with more foods that I have not included regularly if not at all into my diet previously.
Last year I read about Resistant Starch and how the process of boiling then cooling potatoes in the fridge overnight can assist in weight/fat loss. The research done by the science world was good enough to accept the findings and add such potatoes to my diet when I could.
My first experiment for this year is to incorporate CHIA SEEDS into my diet. I've done some reading on them and they offer some awesome nutrition as well as help you feel fuller for longer. Please google information about them as it's too much for me to post here. All you do is soak the seeds in water or milk for a few hours or overnight and add it to various recipes. It's high in fibre so it's net carbs will be low which is perfect even if you are eating low carb like I am doing today.
A 25g serving of Chia Seeds offers :
4.1g Protein
7.7g Fat
11g Carbs
8.6g Fibre
122 Calories
There's so many cool recipes on how to incorporate Chia Seeds into your eating plan. I'm starting off with a simple Chia Seed Pudding recipe where all I did was add 13g of Chia Seeds to 200ml of Coconut Milk with a drop of Vanilla Extract. I mixed it and left it in the fridge at around 11am and hopefully it will be ready to consume by 8pm as dessert for today. A typical serving is about 25g but I decided to introduce it at half the serving size to see if my body will have any reaction to it because of its fibre content. I don't have any protein powder to add to it at the moment but I definitely will in the future. I'll increase it to 25g of Chia Seeds on Thursday and I want to add it to my oats.
I found that Chia Seeds were selling for about R60 for 100g in Clicks and Woolworths had it for R86 for 250g. I went into the spice shop in our local mall and found it selling for R5 per 25g packet which equates to R20 for 100g and that's really cheap so perhaps look in indian spice shops for these sorts of foods if you want to save some money. The oats in the same spice shop is R9 for 500g but they have a bit of a spice like odour on them due to being packed with all the various spices that they stock but that is more than 2.5 times cheaper than 500g of Jungle Oats.
I'm planning to consume 25g of Chia Seeds every non-fast day so that means I'll have them on Tuesday, Thursday and weekends.
Well this is my 1st new change for 2017. I'd love to see your comments if you have used Chia Seeds previously and if you haven't then feel free to add to the discussion with questions.
