I used to write each thing I ate in the journal here and it was a good exercise. Lately, I have found it reassuring to use FitDay.com (quirky but very good) to easily enter the foods I eat into their "Food" section and the calories are calculated for me. While the SBD does not require counting calories (it does stress that calories are important), I find that writing the total calories consumed figure down each day is probably the most important figure that I look at, and have been using it to replace writing each item down in the journal.
