I will take anyone's advice at this point. I began this diet on 8/5. Was doing pretty good until yesterday and I'd gained 2 lbs. Went for my Med. checkup this morning & I told the Dr. how discouraged I am. I have been watching my Fat & Calorie intake & she said to begin watching calories only. And she said for me to stick at 1200 - 1400 Calories. I know it is harder to lose weight because of my age, but I'm sooooo miserable at my weight right now. But low and behold, what did I do? I figured what the heck, blew my diet way out the window today & I will begin again tomorrow loyally. What is the trick you all do to stick to, on not going hungry and staying satisfied?

Yes! "Plan your water consumption, just like your meals. I have a 20-oz. glass that I keep with me and refill whenever it's empty. I probably average 3 qts./day.

I can't walk (advanced arthritis in my feet combined with soft-tissue damage due to peripheral neuropathy). I haven't been successful, yet, in adding an exercise routine to my life. My favorite sports are reading and writing! Recumbent biking and strength/resistance training are my preferences, and I have an inexpensive ($29/mo.) "Anytime Fitness" membership. The place is 5 min. from home and couldn't be more convenient. I'll get to it!

@ 62 you can lose weight and keep it off. Slowly is often better for being able to do that as you are changing your eating habits to healthy not "dieting". I totally agree with those who have said you have to find what works for you and you do have to make a life changing "decision" to find a way. It is often hard to do. My plan evolved over time starting with what I posted earlier cut out processed foods and add veggies as low carb didn't work for me over the long haul.

Debbie we are the same age. I can lose weight when I stick to a plan, even without exercising. Although eventually I need to exercise. I tend to eat the majority of my food early in the day and have dinner early (by 4pm) and dinner is usually light, like scrambled egg and 1/2 piece of toast or I used to have a bowl of cereal (not eating cereal right now). I also stay way below what's recommended for calories, I strive for 1100-1200 but often am less than that. I don't like cooking much

People keep talking about sugar as if it's the culprit. Doctors, nutritionists, personal trainers all know it comes down to calories. Science disagrees with the sugar fear mongering. Sugar may cause you to over consume calories but for me personally, sugar helps me control my calories. It comes down to the individual.

I so understand. I try my best to stay at 1200 calories. Sometimes I'm a little over or under. I for sure will lose one pound a week eating this way. This included two days of Zumba for seniors per week. LCHF does not work for me since I love fruit and eat about two per day. My breakfast go to is either eggs, cottage cheese with applesauce, or oatmeal with banana and protein powder. Lunch is Nature's Own double fiber 50 cal bread (I eat two) with two ounces ham or turkey and one slice Velveeta. I pair this with a piece of fruit and I'm full until dinner. Dinner can be anything that fits into my calorie budget. Most nights I have a treat of some sort (no more than 150 cal) along with a cup of Maxwell House sugar free decaf coffee. I find this type of food works best for me and best of all, I'm not hungry nor do I feel deprived. I love popcorn and will always eat movie popcorn (no extra butter) as long as I stay within the calorie budget. Please don't give up, just keep trying different foods that you enjoy and will keep you full the longest.

Not going hungry and staying satisfied on a calorie restricted diet is possible. The bottom line for me has been low carb, high fat, moderate protein. Generally, a ketogenic diet. I did a calorie restricted diet about 10 years ago shortly after I had my son. It worked and I lost the weight I wanted, but I went hungry and felt deprived a lot. Gradually, over the years the weight crept back on as I stopped restricting my calorie intake. I recently found low carb and tried that for a while but hit a weight-loss plateau. I wasn't ready to give up on low carb just yet though because I felt SO MUCH BETTER as a result of cutting carbs (better/easier/more sleep, less headaches, less irritability, no more PM energy dips). I've been trying a calorie restricted ketogenic approach and I've been amazed at how full I've been. I've been trying to stay under 1400 calories a day, but it hasn't been a problem at all. I've been around 1200-1300 because I don't need more!! Fat and protein are super filling!

i would try keto. it is so much easier to resist high calorie carbs when you can eat fat and protein. Gotta get thru a rough keto flu for a week or so, but then it should take the lbs off.

For the in between meal times when you are feeling really Hungry, grab a glass of water and a Quaker Oats rice cake. They make all different flavors now and they are only 50 calories. My favorite is the Caramel Corn! or find a low calorie alternative that works for you. I found when I started this journey that the worst part for me was the starving feeling and I had to work on a good balance.
