Journal de erikahollister, 15 janv. 18

Well, I haven't weighed in for months. I fell and hit my head on 11/06 and suffered a concussion. I've been laid up with it, unable to do much of anything without bringing on a wicked headache. So, I've been a couch potato, a shut in. I need and am enjoying the peace and quiet, but my weight has ballooned. Carb creep. I've craved carbs and eaten enough of them to set in a steady gain. I'm ready to put a stop to that. I am wondering how a ketogenic diet will do for concussion recovery. I need to manage both weight loss and the brain injury.

Oh you poor thing - that was a bit more than concussion I think. I've no idea about whether keto will be the best diet for you but I do sincerely wish you a speedy recovery. Take care.

Thanks, Doobrie. When the symptoms persist, it's called Post Concussive Syndrome or PCS. It happens in about 15% of concussions.

So sorry Erika and welcome back. I would use keto for a little bit to ramp up burning fat for fuel. I would them focus on IF afterwards (because it will be easier after being fat adapted ) for healing because of the benefits of autophagy. We are here for you..

Ketogenic diet is anti inflammatory It should be great for any injuries that cause inflammation. I started mine after diagnosed with cancer. I’ve lost 30 pounds since November 8th. I also threw out all artificial sweeteners ad right away loss 6 pounds of fluid my leg used to swell but not anymore

I agree with Gramma Dolly, Keto is an anti-inflame type of diet, but you do not have to go at it full bore for it to help. Cutting sugar, grains and dairy down to very small amounts will certainly help. Glad to hear you are getting better, and hope you have a full recovery soon! We are here for you.

since I started eating keto, all the swelling in my legs has disappeared, as I tell everyone, I believe its always a good idea for everyone to discuss dieting with their Dr, I am under the care of weight loss Doctors, and staff Every ones chemical makeup differs to some extent! Or their other maladies... Good luck, Erika!

Hang in there Erika, there is hope. I'm was very close sedentary and I've lost 41 pounds in 8 weeks. I'm not starving myself either and I have more energy. My doctor approves of Keto and celebrates my weight loss with me. Limit your carb intake and you'll watch the lb's drop off. You can do this.

Welcome back, Erika....I am obviously not a physician but I would think Keto would be okay....it was originally used to treat epilepsy and now for all inflammatory diseases. I agree with Ches that you might want to hold off on IF for a bit. When in doubt check online with DietDoctor or Jason Jung's website. They are the experts. Hope you recover fully soon.

I agree with Alan about do speak with your doctor first when we are ill or down from an injury we tend to allow any kind of comfort we can get to assist with our illness yep and it can be high carb laden foods. Ive gained twice that much over a 3 yr period and I didn't have an injury like yours lol, I hope you feel better soon, here is to your journey to feeling better;)

Thanks everyone. I've done some reading. Keto is generally acknowledged to be neuro-protective and anti-inflammatory, but not much research has been done on Keto and Traumatic Brain Injury. So, I'm my own guinea pig. I ate some healthy carbs, because that felt right in the beginning, and now I'm getting back to Keto. I'll see how that affects the concussion symptoms, and I'll let you all know how it goes.
