Frustrated and confused:

I have fatty liver disease and Hemochromatosis, it causes my body to absorb and store far too much iron. This excess iron is stored in organs, such as the liver, pancreas( which I already had half of it removed along with my gall bladder) , and skin. It is due to a mutation in the gene that regulates the absorption of iron from food. If this defective gene is inherited from both parents, then the person will develop hemochromatosis. If the individual inherits the mutated gene from only one parent, the person will be a carrier but will not necessarily develop the disease.

Can't have/Need to to control raw seafood, alcohol, Iron, Beta carotene, Vitamin C

I just need to balance heme iron vs non-heme iron foods.

e.g. The Iron Disorders Institute provides a nice real world example of how this may work. Say you eat a 4 oz hamburger containing 1.2 mg of heme iron. Someone with normal iron absorption might absorb 0.3 mg of heme iron from that burger. But someone with hemochromatosis might absorb the full 1.2 mg. Take that a step further and imagine meal after meal, day after day, year after year. If every hamburger consumed leads to this amount of iron absorption, then it can really add up.

So, keto does wonder's for non alcohol fatty liver disease, diabetes, GI issues, insulin, and weight loss, but almost everything they list to eat for keto makes me sick or told to stay away from. Vegan Keto is probably an better option for me..but the resources are limited and suck. Maybe a low carb Pescetarianism, because they eat alot of pastas and grains, might work.

One of highest iron foods are enriched breads and Keto makes you avoid then . I was told that MCL oil helps with fatty livers not caused by Alcohol ( source https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23576797 and https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2013/04/130424161110.htm) which is the biggest danger from high Iron nicely, I have an appointment with a new phlebotomist in late feb, I'll see what he thinks.

I am noticing every time I eat chicken or red meats my herrin lvls are off the charts and I feel ill, Sugar alcohols make me ill so apparently. So, I either learn to have my tea without sugar or give it up entirely.

That is so frustrating! I’m sorry you have to deal with this. Would a nutritionist be able to help? Health is way more important than being thin so focus on getting healthy! Good luck

I do know this. Certain fats in your diet can improve your sensitivity to, or ability to use, insulin. Your cells can take in glucose, so your liver doesn't need to make and store fat. Omega-3 fatty acids are found in fish, fish oil, vegetable oils, nuts (especially walnuts), flaxseeds and flaxseed oil, and leafy veggies.Stay away from sugary foods such as candy, cookies, sodas, and fruit juices. High blood sugar increases the amount of fat buildup in the liver. so Keto in general seems like a good idea..right? But I'm not keepign half of what i eat down, mostly anything with butter, dairy, or red meats. So, I'm considering trying to find a way to modify it based on what my body will tolerate.I just don't know how to do keto and stick to the high fiber fruits and veggies, and whole grains and legumes they suggest =( Do like and eat walnuts, flax, fish, avocados, I need to eat more tofu and soy, tea green etc etc..but they recommend full fat dairy too, but I seem to hurl it up, half the time . =(

Isn't it obvious? If it makes you sick....don't eat it. Dairy made me sick....been dairy free for 4 years now and would never go back!!!! Meat started to make me sick, tried it 3 more times and gave up on it. Nearly 2 years now. Don't see it as a problem. Embrace it and move forward. I never imagined to drink coffee without milk. Now the idea makes me shudder. Wishing you all the best :)

A vegetarian diet sounds ideal for you. There are lots of tasty options and alternatives to meat. Why not research recipes on Google?

I feel for you! Have you tried Googling "Vegan Keto"? I just have and there appear to be a lot of sites with recipes that may help you out. You sound like you have a lot of knowledge about what could work, but you're lacking in ideas. All the best!

Try switching to Purely Inspired Organic Vegetable Protein powder. I use the vanilla flavor and add vanilla that is non sweetened and Hershey’s Special Dark Cocoa which has no sugar or sweetener. Then you can add whatever sweet you can tolerate, stevia, sucrose or saccharine. I add 1/2 cup of plain greek yogurt, almond milk, and ice to mine with various other flavors for variety.(To 1 scoop, not 2.) I do mocha almond chocolate, peanut butter chocolate, cherry chocolate, vanilla cherry, cinnamon apple, chicolate mint, Licorice. I use flavoured teas to get some of the flavour as well. The powder has 20g in 2 scoops and 35% of a day’s iron, but I use 1 scoop for 3 servings added to 1/2 to 3/4 cup of plain greek yogurt and collagen. The chocolate has some iron as well, but the plain greek yogurt doesn’t. Cherries only have minimal iron. You may be able to keep it down better mixed up like this.🙋🏻‍♀️
