Just for the FUN of it I thought I would calculate my BMR. The calculator I used online said 1500 calories. So that means if I sit around all day and do absolutely nothing I can eat 1500 calories and NOT gain weight?

So, I'm curious, if I am eating about 1500 calories a day, working a full time job, and exercising 45 minutes a day on my elliptical seems like I should be losing weight.

Hmmmm.

This one is consistent with results that I have seen before (and that work well for me): http:// www. bmi-calculator.net /bmr-calculator/. It calculates the amount of calories which one is burning while in bed doing absolutely nothing. I'm not sure about the different results you are getting which may be coming from modifications of the original Harris Benedict equation. On top of this figure, you must add your activity level: sedentary (+about 500 calories for me), moderate, active, very active and so on. Remember to knock out the spaces in the URL. What does it give you for a BMR? The answer to your question above is yes, if you lie around in bed all day and don't move, you should be able to consume your BMR and not gain weight.

Hi Moose! Some people would say that if you eat "only" 1500 cals and you have an active lifestyle, then you don't eat enough and you slow your metabolism down, which means no weight loss. I don't know how true it is, but I've read that so often on here... In my opinion, all those calculations give high numbers. I'm sure we can live with less calories than that.

To answer your question on my journal, yes I feed coyotes. I need them and I want to make them happy on my land. I have 14 this year, I'm so happy to see them playing in the morning, and to hear them howling at night!
