I started the keto diet the first of the month and I love it, but I just can’t seem to get the required fat amount in to my diet to go into ketosis. 🙃

Butter everything, splenda on butter, cream cheese with splenda rolled into little balls & frozen, heavy cream mixed with cocoa powder & splenda (whipped/frozen/whipped again), butter or coconut oil in your coffee....

I’m loving the diet and I need to get some strips to see if I ever get into ketosis.

You have to cut back on carbs, that’s what getting into (as well as staying in) ketosis is focused on

Butter doesn't get you in ketosis low carbs and moderate protein does!

Try Virgin Coconut oil. 1 tbsp has 14 grams.

if there's a day I'm too low on fat, I bust out a brick of cream cheese. Or if I'm really too low I'll mix coconut oil, baking cocoa powder, unsweetened shredded coconut, and artificial sweetener.

How can you lose weight with all this fat? 1 tbsp. of coconut oil has 117 calories. How many calories are you allowing yourself each day? I wouldn't want to use up 117 of my calories just to have a tiny bit of oil.

Swiiiila, a Keto diet is low carb, moderate protein and high healthy fats. Eating fats is how we do it. For me personally, I've been strict Keto since December 20 and I've lost exactly 40 pounds as of today. Without struggle. And I've reversed some health issues I had. For me, it's a great lifestyle that I'll never change. Although I know it's not for everyone.

The focus is mainly on protein and carbs. For example: the keto calculator gives me 78 grams protein, carbs under 20 total (I do 10 net) and fat can range from 30 minimum to 149 max. A lot of leeway. So...no worries. Just concentrate on protein and carbs.

Also, to up fats, add olive oil, avocado oil, or butter to foods. Brie cheese is good, cream cheese also. Avocados are good fats, but also have carbs so watch how much you eat. Pecans too are good fats, also higher carbs so watch the portion. Look up fat bombs and make some. Google it and you'll find good recipes. Good luck!!

Look into Keto coffee, add grass fed butter 6 grams and 1 tsp first of MCT Coconut Oil. it has a different chain than other fats and then add 3 tbsp of 35% cream. Depending on your calorie limitations. I have been on it a short time as well and have been losing weight and the keto stick does not show I am in ketosis, but to be losing I am. Look for bacon that does not have sugar in it during curing. Save the fat, and cook your other food with it, try a teaspoon, it's good. I kind of giggle when I think of all of the years of paying for the leanest hamburger, the leanest steaks, the finest chicken breasts, and here I am reversing it all and succeeding where I failed the other way around. Don't worry about the fat pour it on, keep carbs under 20 and don't let the protein get away on you, the result could easily be too much protein. Good luck, enjoy I love NOT being hungry and NOT having cravings.

I faithfully stuck to the high fat, high protein, low carbs diet for 2 months - encouraged by two diabetic friends. After 6 weeks, at my annual blood test/physical checkup my cholesterol ha gone through the roof, and my liver following double check via ultrasound was fatty. Have abandoned that diet in favour of the good old balanced diet and keeping the calories below 1000/day which for my height and build is correct. Whereas on the high fat/high protein/low carbs diet I lost easily for 2 weeks and then nothing for 6 weeks, a month into calorie controlled diet I've lost over a kilo. Total weight loss in 3 months is 3.5 kilos. Very slowly, but very surely. Hopefully within another couple of months my cholesterol will have gone back to normal and my liver will be fitter. My doctor was adamant that the high fat/high protein diet may be good for diabetics, but not for healthy people like me ... My advice, see a doctor and have your blood checked before pursuing the high fat route.

It's not for everyone, but please don't give up Keto without giving it time to work! Full adaptation can take up to 6 months. A1c, triglycerides, HDL, LDL, inflammation, all improve over time as the kidneys adapt. Read blog.virtahealth.com - their research documents the benefits, especially for T2 diabetics. My lab results at 3 months / 25 lbs loss showed A1c normal but some of the other markers went up slightly. I have lost 10 more lbs, will be very interested to see my next labs this summer.

Christine, just a word of assurance. I've been on a Wheat Belly woe (HF, LC, MP) for two years now. When you are losing weight thru Wheat Belly or Keto you should not do cholesterol testing (unless medically necessary). The simplified explanation is that your fat cells are releasing fat molecules, waste etc into your blood stream which then skews your cholesterol scores. You should wait at least four weeks after you stop weight loss to check your cholesterol. You were probably in better shape than you thought. Best

Saw my doctor with the ultrasound shot of my liver. Blood test results entirely confirmed, liver is decidedly fatty - but kidneys are fine. Two months of bacon and eggs and cream etc. caused havoc. I'm absolutely not going to take a chance with my health eating such fatty foods, which by the way is not my habit, or my craving. Counting calories over the last six weeks or so feels right and the weight is definitely dropping down regularly. So, if I get results eating a balanced diet, I'm not hungry or craving anything I can't allow myself in small quantities, and I am not jeopardising my health, it's for me.
