Weightloss:

Still losing weight. I haven't changed my eating habits since cutting milk and bread. I love milk, but I'm not a kid anymore. Milk was making me fat and sick. I love bread, but it was also making me fat and sick. Turn sideways and I could see my wheat-belly in the mirror; I'm thankful it's nearly gone. Processed foods, boxed, canned and frozen, were also making me sick--too much salt, raising my blood pressure. Too many unhealthy ingredients such as soy, canola, HFCS and beet sugar. I'm off the BP meds, now. Happy about that.

I try to keep in mind, this is not a "diet." The changes I make are changes for life. I also try to be realistic. Sometimes I do have bread. A slice of toast with my egg or oatmeal in the morning. A few days ago I had a banana milkshake, consisting of almond milk, Tillamook vanilla bean ice cream and a banana. I paid for it the next day in the bathroom, but it was worth it. :)

Exercise and Fibromyalgia:
They don't mix well. From what my doctors have told me, they will never mix well, and that's just the way it is, but don't give up.

*Almost forgot to note, I am drinking about a cup of almond milk a day, where I wasn't before.

Since August, when I began cutting my bread consumption, I've steadily been losing weight. I'd read that grains are not all that good for the body; I've found from eating whole grain breads (eating healthy), that they don't agree with my intestinal track either. My IBS has improved since cutting down on bread, and eliminating the so-called healthy breads altogether. I have on average 1 - 3 slices of white bread per week, either my own homemade bread made with olive oil, or a sourdough commercial bread that is almost like I would make at home (it could be better).

In August I also began cutting even more processed foods from my diet, especially products containing genetically modified corn and soy, hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils--and of course HFCS, which I've been avoiding for a few years now. The kinds and type of oils used in products concern me more after learning about oil rancidity and plaque formation in the arteries. It's a bit discouraging that many products on the market contain the above ingredients (and worse), but if I can't find something I want or need, I'll try to make it myself; if I can't make it myself I'll do without. Having fibromyalgia means sometimes having to do without even if I could make it myself, because I might not be feeling well enough to cook from scratch and that's something I'm still learning how to deal with.

Now I exist on fresh or frozen veggies and fruits (no white potatoes unless I can't stop myself :D), eggs, lean beef, air-chilled chicken, wild caught salmon, oatmeal occasionally (although I don't really know if that's so good, since I feel bloated after eating it), and a few slices of bread because I love it--especially with sweet orange marmalade. :) I also occasionally indulge in a slice of homemade cake, pie or a baked doughnut--I'm not a masochist, after all--and have even dined out a few times in the past three months.

Overall, I feel I have more energy, so I'm more active. I don't think my current diet has improved or worsened my fibro--I still have pain throughout my body which requires medication and some serious flare-ups that knock me off my feet; but, cutting grains did reduce my IBS symptoms.
