Good idea to post now! Nice going! I sure hope the outage is very brief and no issues whatsoever! Hang in there! Can you chop up some veggies to eat... I've been chewing on a lot of carrots and radishes lately. Doesn't seem very exciting... Hoping for thr best for you!

Tatauu - thank you. More than likely there is nothing to worry about. It's going to be windy. I worry about things in the best of times, but it's worse when the utility company keeps leaving phone messages and text messages that they may turn off power. Bella - can't imagine inspiring anyone with my excessive worrying! But after seeing disasters all over the country (hurricanes, flooding, etc) I have learned to be prepared. Ever since being evacuated 2 years ago I make sure my car is never low on gas. It's always full. I've seen it on the news so many times when people are lined up at gas stations trying to get away from the area. I also keep a flashlight next to all the beds and candles all over the house I can light if needed. Melissa - my stove will work, so I would be able to cook if the electricity is off. I just have chopped up celery in the fridge and a few baby carrots. Maybe I'll make a tuna salad with the celery. Keyten - thank you. I will be careful and neighbors really look out for each other in my neighborhood. There are lots of retirees and many women, like me, who live alone. The car is in the driveway in case I have to leave, but I really hope the wind forecast changes before morning and maybe nothing at all will happen.

Congratulations so much with the weightloss. It is great that you can do that with of the stress. Everyone would worry in your situation. Hope it all goes well.

@Fritzy, you should look into the solar battery solution if this is the new way the power company is going to deal with Santa Ana’s. This is the one time where I’d say carefully consider the PPA w/prorated buyout in case you ever want to sell. CA has great rebates for panels and battery, but you need to make sure there is funding remaining and jump right on it. For future consideration. You’ve got a full plate already. Good luck!!! See what I did with full plate though? Had to include some sort of FS reference. 😉 and no, I don’t sell solar anything. I’m just a good researcher.

Katsolo - lots of houses in my neighborhood have solar panels on their homes, but still need the utility company for it to work. They just pay a couple of dollars a month for power instead of the $400+ I pay in the summer to run the a/c. I am probably going to sell the house in the next 2 years so am spending money on things I have to do to sell. I haven't heard of battery for power. Yes, like the full plate reference. I rarely have a full plate of food any more!

Thanks Liv. I think I've been doing so much the past couple days I haven't had time to focus on food!

Stay safe! Glad to hear that you have a full tank, and that your house will mostly function when the power is out (we are full electric, and a well for our water, so no power for a week would be pretty rough). Fingers crossed that the winds don't kick up!

Battery will store excess power during the day and provide power during outages. About 8 hours worth if you can milk it slowly (another food reference). That said, batteries are lithium which you would not want mounted in the house during fire season. Although I’m sure your local building codes accommodate for this somehow. If you can figure out how to do it without strings for free, you should. Lots of grants right now.

Thanks everyone! Just got another phone message from PG&E and it sounds like for sure they will shut off power to my house sometime overnight. At least the weather will be cooler for the next few days, not above the low 80's and mostly in the 70's. My house gets HOT so the AC runs all the time in the summer. I have a gas stove, but everything else is electric. But I will be fine with the stove. Sounds like it may get really windy and when that happens fires start easily and get big really fast. So hopefully no one will barbecue or do anything outside that could start a fire.

We will hope the winds are not strong, temps are low, and there are no stupid people lighting things. Are your cats collected to their respective rooms? I hope you don't get too bored! Id go for long walks with you if I was around! That would kill some time with no electricity! Hang in there!

Melissa I have 3 cats in the master bedroom with 3 carriers. The other cat
has the rest of the house. She should be easy to get in a carrier. Got a bag packed for me a d one for the pets ready to go if necessary. Sounds like the winds won't hit my area until tomorrow afternoon so don't understand why they are shutting power off between midnight and 4am. Hope I can sleep tonight. I have to have the tv on usually to sleep

I saw a news story about power being shut down in some parts of California so I am guessing Fritzy has no power as well.
