Well, I went to the doctor today and had a 4 pound weight gain. I'm convinced it's water weight because I feel bloated and I'm having swelling in my feet. I spoke to my doctor about my issues and he took me off one of my medications for my migraines. I take a low dose of lyrica, but it can also cause swelling and dizziness which I'm having both of these issues. I'm hoping once the drug is out of my system that the swelling starts to go away. He also drew a bunch of labs to make sure everything else was doing OK. I'm curious to see what my vitamin levels are since I've had the surgery. He also did a thyroid lab on me to check that. My thyroid has always been normal in the past, so hopefully it's still running normal. My doctor thinks my body is in a little bit of hormonal and physical shock from having the surgery and it will just take some time to normalize. It's been very frustrating for me to deal with these problems because I'm still looking for the scale to go down. I usually failed diet in the past when this happened, but now I have no choice and can't cheat which I'm thankful for. I'm hoping my body gets it together soon because I'm not very patient!!

If the doctors scale isn't your "official" scale than I wouldn't put too much emphasis on what it says. Every scale is calibrated differently and you can weigh something different on each one. Plus, doctors are supposed to calibrate their scales regularly (because so many people weigh on them) and many do not. So go by the one you weigh on each day/week. Same scale, same place, same time of day, same clothes, etc. to get the most accurate gauge of weight loss.

Water weight can be controlled by drinking more water. By not drinking enough water leads to water retention. I thought the doctor was crazy when she told me that but after doing it & peeing myself to death I started to notice the swelling in my legs & feet reducing. Also, try eating more calories & stay clear of processed foods...I noticed you ate less than 1200 calories (I do it too at times) which leads our bodies to hold on to fat. I too am recovering from surgery (knee & foot), so just take your time, your at least trying & doing better than the one still sitting on the couch! Check out the www.hasfit.com website for some great free beginner workouts & motivation workout posters! (also free eating plan).

I would constantly feel bloated until, (via food allergy testing) I found out I am allergic to gluten, dairy, corn, chicken and more besides. If I have a 'cheat' moment, the next day I have gained weight and feel like I am 6 months pregnant. Do you have sensitivites to certain foods? I like the other post, where she says not to put too much emphasis on the doctor's scale, but it is discouraging all the same. I wish you good luck and thanks for sharing.
