I’ve been so diligent in everything I eat. I track everything. I stay in a calorie deficit. But I’m just not losing weight! Why am I plateauing right now? 😭

Morticia, I’m waiting to hear back from my PCP. I messaged her today because I want a referral to GI and a nutritionist to examine my diet closer.

People can react differently to the same foods. Some foods can cause inflammation for some (while others may do just fine with them), along with hormones that can be effected, like insulin (for some). You could try an elimination diet to find the cause. Good luck to you!

All the above in addition are you ingesting enough water? You could try and bump up your protein to closer to 100 grams you are roughly in the 50 ish range. When i stalled i doubled down on my walking to get things moving again and was extra cautious on my food. Took a few days. My hubs calls it shocking the system. Give the body something unexpected. Sometimes it may be that you need to actually UP your caloric intake as well for a couple days as counterintuitive as that sounds. What you are doing is awesome!! You are losing weight!!!!! And it’s the very best idea to need with a nutritionist. Also get a really comprehensive blood panel to make sure you aren’t having other issues at play. (I found out im in adrenal failure which negatively impacts quite severely metabolism). Don’t get discouraged. Many people have said this…it’s a marathon not a sprint and we didnt get fluffy overnight🥰.

maybe try an apple Day. eat 6 apples throughout the day and only 6 apples. it's not fun, but it kicks starts you back into fat burning. Maybe also track your blood sugar. It may be higher than you want if you're trying to lose weight.

Zenus, I’m on an anti-inflammatory diet for my fibromyalgia. I’m already eating as clean as I know how. And I really do feel like I got fat overnight, because I got really sick in January of 2022 and I was on so many steroids and too weak to exercise so I gained 50 pounds in five months! But I’m stubborn. I won’t be discouraged.

YearOfHealth, I’ve already had a complete blood panel ran recently. I try to get enough water; 8 cups is my minimum, but I usually average 16 per day. To be honest, it would be hard to up my protein as a single mother of three teenagers without government assistance. I can’t afford it. I was eating more eggs, but I was told to watch my cholesterol, so I’m trying to limit those to once a week now. I used to buy bulk ground beef and portion it out and freeze it to save money, but that’s out too now. Learning to eat anti-inflammatory and low carb has not been fun! I’m just glad I have good insurance and that I’m taking the initiative to make improvements on my health!

So I don’t eat much meat but protein shakes or powder can really help. Body fortress is $2.25 for one premade shake has 40 grams of protein and 180 calories. Walmart was the cheapest. Just to give you an idea. Don’t forget about beans also and egg whites not whole eggs.

I've experienced the same thing several times with a 500-1000 daily calorie deficit including weight training and cardio. don't let it discourage you. most YouTube fitness coaches mention that as you lose fat, that void is filled with water weight that takes a while to flush. Keep drinking lots of water. for the protein, Walmart has a great light tuna that costs only 85 cents a can, has only 100 cal, and gives 25 grams of protein. it's my most efficient source both in costs and calories even compared to budget whey protein. some don't like the taste, but if you have light mayo and chopped celery (or in my case sriracha or sambal olek if I can ever find it) it's more palatable.

On the subject of eggs: dietary cholesterol does not raise your blood cholesterol. Eggs are excellent protein and you can eat loads of them without affecting your blood numbers. look it up. It's hyper insulinemia that causes high triglycerides - high carbs. Plateaus happen: my best tool to get past a stall is fasting.

If you know you are in a true deficit. Then it’s water and bowel. Being in a deficit you don’t clear out your bowels as often as when you are full. And triglycerides are transports to deposit fat for storage. Meaning surplus in energy. Or consuming high carbs high fats, cuz carbs gets used as 1st source of energy. They your body package the fats into triglycerides to store

When it happens to me I start using the food scale and realize how small a one ounce serving really is.

I feel for you Francesca, but it sounds like you are problem solving and have a great attitude. For the last 3 weeks it takes me 10 days to lose a pound. I think I need to follow Diablo's advice. I have to get motivated to lower my calories which I don't really want to do or be happy with a slow loss. Curious to hear what your nutritionist has to say. Good luck in your journey!

Thank you, everyone for all the encouragement! (Even that that’s … odd 😉 and has clearly not looked at my food log) I think SuperGainz1 is correct about bowel and water weight. I can’t do a complete fast because of the meds I take, and I can’t do a real “cheat day” because my diet consists of anti-inflammatory foods for my fibromyalgia. To eat foods outside my diet is to inflict pain on myself, and to eat more than my allotted calories is pretty hard unless I just go nuts on the peanut butter. Also, I’ve got braces, so hard and crunchy foods are out of the question. While I COULD eat an apple if I slice it thin enough, I don’t think I could eat more than 3 in a day.
