Sigh. Of COURSE I had to start my diet during Restaurant Week! If your city doesn't have one, Restaurant Week is a one- or two-week period during which all the local restaurants offer a tasting menu, have special items on their regular menu, or have special guest chefs. Essentially, it's not just going out to eat, it's going out for a special night.
BF and I love food. We're straight-up foodies. And we also like to be sociable when we can, which meant that last night, when a big group from his workplace got together to go to a nearby Italian restaurant for Restaurant Week, we couldn't say no: not only would it be going against our foodie instincts, it would be anti-social! Hence, the sigh.
I tried to order healthily off the three-course menu. I started with a Cannelloni Bean Salad topped with a single grilled jumbo shrimp (exquisite), then had the grilled salmon served over oven-roasted potatoes (heavenly), and finished up with the mango sorbet. I made sure to only eat half of the entree and have the other half wrapped, but I'm still certain that, thanks to the richness of high-end Italian food, I probably ate my RDI in dinner alone yesterday. :(
