I can't believe this! My experiment of adding some junk food(cakes) and eating whatever food in whatever quantity I felt like this last week has not stopped my weight loss!!! I officially weighed in at 116.4kg which gives me a 0.3kg drop in weight. So the junk food and extra calories slowed down my rate of weight loss as I was usually getting 0.7kg to 0.9kg weekly weight loss in previous weeks but the most important thing is that I did not gain weight.

Interesting and really pleasing to know that I have so much flexibility to indulge in those junk foods and not let it destroy my progress. That said, I won't be using this as an excuse to eat junk foods daily but I love knowing that I am not totally restricted from them.

Thanks goes out to all my FatSecret buddies and those I engage with. All the best to everyone in their weight loss journey :)

Bingo! This is what the Michael Mosley doc touches on with that one scientist if you recall where they study groups of people who fast one day on and one day off, the one group eats 'whatever'. Also, adds to what I've found with myself. Eating anything on non-fast days, loss is 0.3-0.4kg. My sis on the other hand who is a careful eater generally, is loosing 0.7-0.9kg. Yes, we all have different physiologies, but this supports exactly what I've found!

Y002 I think that documentary by Michael Mosley should be given an award!!! I love that the whole "careful eating" does not mean avoiding carbs because that just becomes too difficult and restrictive for me yet I don't find myself pigging out on the bad stuff which are mainly composed of carbs. The psychological effect of calorie counting is such an effective discipline to aid weight loss that you naturally tend to avoid bad carbs. I can't wait to see what things are like in another 3 months time :D This has become my lifestyle for life :)

I agree. I'm definitely not advocating eating junk on non-fast days, but my reality is that I am not too careful and my quest is to become a healthier eater, but this is a much easier way of doing it and applying it as a lifestyle change and choice, well, for me and my personality anyway. That documentary is excellent!

Yip you can loose a lot of weight by just eating junk food! It is not WHAT you eat but HOW MUCH, i.e. the calories you consume. The problem with junk food is that it has the wrong combination of macro nutrients, i.e. protein, fat and carbs! There is nothing wrong with a (as in ONE) cheat MEAL a week to keep you motivated.

100% agree with you Xisto2. I've become accustomed to seeing high calorie but low volume food as not getting good bang for buck so to speak. Coincidently, junk food is such a food that just is not worth eating all the time BUT in moderation it does not need to be given up completely to lose weight as long as there is some form of discipline in place in terms of daily calorie intake. I've concluded that weight gain, for most people, is a result of not having any discipline and control of their calories hence the body is just bombarded with tons of calories on a daily basis and the body has no choice but to store the surplus as fat. I've never counted calories in my life until about 3 months ago and it has given me a whole new perspective to life.
