So, I must ask a question? Can you gain weight from doing too much exercise? I only ask this because last week and last weekend I did not do more than just walk a couple miles most days. I took a 3 mile walk 5 out of 8 days (Monday to Monday). When I weighed in on Monday morning I was at my lowest of 262. Tuesday through today, I had a calorie deficiency from all the walking, working, and exercising I do and I gained almost 3 pounds. I am confunded. I just don't get it at all. Maybe to see if this hypothesis could be true, I will not work out next week and see if that helps. Maybe just walking is truly enough and my exercise routine is too much. Time to be geek out and do this scientifically. I will let you know what I find out. If you have any suggestions, I will be more than happy to listen. Thanks and have a great weekend.

Your muscles could be retaining water if they are sore, also muscle weighs more then fat but that builds slowly, certanly not 3 lbs in a few days. Maybe you just ate different foods and even though you ate the same amount of cals your body reacted diferently. Your body retains water when you eat salty and carbs.

Large fluctuations are usually just due to water weight. Although I would caution you from feeling like exercising is giving you a caloric deficit. Calculators for calories burned almost always overestimate, leading you to think you can eat more that day.

i'm no expert, but it's my understanding that over-exercise creates small tears in your muscle (that's what makes you sore) causing your muscles to hold onto water in the process of repairing that damage. maybe someone can explain it better than i?

I will dig around and see if I can find a page that explains how muscles fuel and rebuild themselves.

Google "why the scale lies". It gives you insight in to exercise and water retention as well as other factors that can cause your weight to shift all day long.

Weight gain after exercise is mostly because it causes a little water retention. There I a such things as "over exercising and under eating" that will cause real weight gain tho bc it screws with your metabolism after a while. Google "" for a complete explanation.
