Journal de Nattybun, 08 mars 19

Well I found a very nice assistance living to move to. It's in Portland
Huge room ( 3x the size of my room now ) they play bingo, trivia, go to the movies. I think this is going to be great for me. I will be moved in by March
28TH then April 1st for hip joint replacement surgery. I am getting very nervous, and scared. PLEASE send your prayers. As you can see 183 again.
Trying to stick to my diet. Being nervous turns me into a stress eater, but i must keep my mind off April 1st. PLEASE send your comments, reading those really helps me to know that I have a lot of friends out there.

I have so many friends who have had hip replacement including my late sister. All had great recovery times did the PT after surgery and some of them are now scheduling their other hip replacement surgery. Many of them are from my church or are in my prayer circle so I don't doubt their story at all..prayers for you!

I think its fantastic you found a place that has some fun activities and you can be around people to keep you busy.. My friend who is 43 had both hip surgery done and she is so happy that she had it done. no more pain.. Enjoy your new home...

@Nattybun, it's wonderful that you've found a new and pleasant living situation! It's awful to feel like you have few good choices at "our age" (i.e., officially "elderly"). I was thinking I might need a knee replacement last year and canvassed people who've had them. Nearly everyone I'd spoken to told me that the recovery was tough but worth it, for the *great* relief and the recovery of pain-free mobility. The key is to follow the advice of your surgeon and physical therapist as closely as you can. You only have two hips; they've probably "replaced" thousands! With many of us praying for you, I know that you are in God's hands!

Physical therapy and maintaining that level of physical activity is so important. You have a great attitude and will continue to move forward and succeed.

My husband had both good done and has done well. Rehab is important and I might have to have one done. Good luck. 🙏

I agree with EmaleeG. I know it's easier said than done, but you have to try to focus on the positive rather than the negative. A new place. yayyy

I had a hip replacement two-and-a-half years ago. Of all of the various medical procedures and surgeries I've been through (probably 25 surgeries, maybe more), this was one of the easiest. Of course, not everyone is the same, but they had me up and walking (slowly, and with a walker) the day after surgery. I went home later that day. I can't take hydrocodone or oxycodone for pain, so I was given tramadol, which isn't nearly as strong. Guess what? The pain was no big deal. I suffered through much more pain from the hip before the hip replacement. I was worried about the hip replacement beforehand, but it turned out to be not worth the worrying. It definitely is not worth the extra pounds you'll put on from stress eating.
