Morning FS family,

Does anyone understand how full cream Maas (sour milk like Nkomazi) can be high in carbs? Because it’s simply fermented full cream milk, no?🤔🤷🏽‍♀️ I put it into the food diary and was shocked by the high carb content 😳 Please help me understand because I want to include it in my eating.

I think because it’s a milk it still contains sugar (carbs) so perhaps that’s why it is a high calorie food.

Yea, milk contains lactose which consists of glucose and galactose. Thus, milk has a carbohydrate component.

It also depends on the brand you use, I think. I've found when you go to the shops and read the labels, there's a huge difference between brands.

It's a fermented product so a fair amount of the sugar "is eaten" however as pointed out by previous poster's it still contains lactose. escapistart...if you come across a brand with a lower carb count please let us know.

Thank you family for explaining, I had no idea! Was still stuck in “dairy = protein therefore no carb” mentality!
