Hello FS friends. I met with the nutritionist yesterday and found there are a few things I was doing that I shouldn't be doing lol. But it hasn't stopped the weight loss but don't want to take any chances that it might down the road.

I asked her for help with some things I needed to set in my FS app, which she did but told me about an app for Bariatric patients called Baritastic that she wanted me to use. So I downloaded it and am going to try to keep up with both. This is probably going hinder me from making post but will do my best to keep up with everyone's progress.

Well time to go play handyman and fix one of the toilets. Hope everyone has a blessed day.

@CajunLadyTiger, would you be comfortable sharing what suggestions the nutritionist made?

Sure miraculum. One thing was no grains or anything made from grain so the quinoa I had is a no no. Can do almond or coconut flour. Don’t do low fat or low or no sugar, they are misleading. And she helped me figure out how to schedule my water better to get the 64oz in daily. And lastly was to eat 4 times a day instead of 3. That’s going to take some work, today 4 hours was sent in a doctor office so lunch got missed :(. It’s all going to be trail and error for a bit.

(1) Eating MORE frequently during the day keeps insulin levels HIGH. That's not good: Insulin, besides enabling the cells to process glucose, is the "fat-storing hormone." People who are or have been morbidly obese (as I was, and as you probably are) are notoriously insulin-resistant and, conversely, "carbohydrate-intolerant." When the cells can't use consumed carbohydrate for immediate energy needs (because of insulin resistance), insulin enables the body to store the excess glucose as subcutaneous and visceral fat. Studies show that LESS frequent eating keeps insulin levels LOWER, thereby preventing some of that fat-storing. That's a good thing in people who are insulin-resistant and obese.

(2) I completely agree with the nutritionist on discouraging grain consumption and low fat diets, but ... "Don't do ... low or no sugar"? Grains and sugar are both metabolically similar, in that both are "carbohydrate."

So, next time you see this nutritionist, I guess I'd ask her about the benefit of frequent eating vis-a-vis insulin, and why grain is bad but sugar is good. Just my suggestions. In the meantime, I suggest you read Dr. Jason Fung's book, "The Obesity Code." (He's a nephrologist who advocates, and treats diabetes with, LCHF/keto diet.) It really explains how the science has changed.

I acknowledge that most doctors and nutritionists think LCHF/keto is total bunk. But many of them are under the misapprehension that it's all "bacon and eggs, no fruit or vegetables," and that's just not true.

@CajunLadyTiger, you're doing so well limiting the carbohydrates in your diet. You can probably afford to increase the fat, which would go along with your nutritionist's advice. I know that's counter-intuitive to those of us who have been dieting since the Year of the Flood! You're eating so few calories that your body will inevitably adjust to the slower calorie intake by slowing metabolism. That will definitely slow your weight loss.
