Journal de MrsTofu, 04 déc. 14

So yesterday I lost track of things in the evening and developed a bad attitude that invited further bad choices. This morning I had thought I was doing well with portions (though I didn't exactly measure my cereal which was a poor choice), and then I found out my granola was REALLY high calorie. I mean it shouldn't be a surprise because it is not a low cal food, but I use a lot more oil than sugar and didn't account for how it is like 1 Tb with each serving, so one serving of the granola is about 1/3 of my FS RDI. O_0 Trying to focus on honest, accurate food recording for now. Trying to do more than that trips me up, it seems.

Granola can be really high calorie. Little bits with yogurt or fruit or topping a salad is good.

If you're making your own, I've seen recipes that substitute applesauce for some or all of the oil. Still some sugars there, but a little lighter on the fats. I love granola, too, but I try to make my own so I can control what goes into it.

Great job on recognizing an opportunity to change something in your diet. Doing all of the things needed to lose weight can be overwhelming if looked at all together. You are doing great with starting with tracking food. After a while, that will be habit and then you will add another tool to greater health. It works. Good luck.

Glad you are being open and honest with yourself. If you ever need help subbing stuff in recipes let me know. I love to cook

The applesauce sub sounds good. I think I'll try that. Diana, would I sub that for some of the oil and sweeteners, or just the oil? (My recipe uses a mixture of 1 c. oil, 1/4 c. honey, 1/4. brown sugar, 2 tsp salt, 2 tsp vanilla extract and 1 c. flaxseed meal to form clusters with the oat/nuts while baking.)

I wouldn't be overly worried about the honey as long as it is real honey. Not like most of the stuff you buy at the grocery store. I almost always sub applesauce for oil. In cake and such I also will add a few spoonfuls of greek yogurt to keep it moist. In certain recipes like brownies you can use avocado. http:// greatist. com/health /83-healthy -recipe-substitutions

I only weigh in once a week. To do so more frequently would just make me crazy because of the normal daily fluctuations!

I average my weight over a week because it goes up and down a bit everyday. Even f I'm in a challenge that is a daily update my weight is an average.

I think you are doing really good Mrs Tofu. It can get tricky trying to juggle everything when we haven't become accustomed to doing ONE of them. Don't underestimate the power of baby steps or small strides(LOL I thought that was cute for our Group :) ) Get a good grip on being honest & accurate with your food recordings then move on to another step while continuing the honest & accurate food recordings. Before you know it you WILL be doing it all & wonder why you thought it so difficult in the first place. :)
