Journal de jsfantome, 17 janv. 12

I have a decision to make this morning - well, like I do every morning... but I am going to go back to weighing every day. I haven't done this since the earliest weeks of Atkins, because it would take me all week to lose one pound. And the fluctuations would drive me insane.

So, why am I choosing to NOW drive myself crazy... it's because according to my Fitbit records, I burned on AVERAGE 625 calories MORE each day than I took in. (thru exercise mostly). My avg food consumption was 1450 cal's and my average calorie burn was 2075 for the past 7 days averaged.

So, one would expect 625 x 7 = 4375 ! Now one pound is 3500. See where I am going with this!!!

I am UP 2.5 lbs at this morning's weigh in. Nearly as high as I have been in all the time I have been in maintenance.

AAAAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHHH! WTHECK!

So, be it water retention, or whatever... I want to track daily what the HECK is going on!

I have no 'indiscretions' to report. Been faithful w/ my food, my water, and even my steps and exercise. (for the most part). This whole journey thing is starting to get on my last nerve! But I am smarter, tougher, and far more willing to endure until I find the combination for ME... and this will not stop me! It's only a number, and I am willing to open up my journal to your comments... just know, that I am not giving up, or anything like that. I am just venting... and today is a new day... and I am willing to keep letting my body change and respond to the wonderful and good things I am doing to it. In the end it's all good... I am getting stronger, healthier, and feel terrific w/ or w/out those 2 1/2 pounds... I will not let it wreck my week!

Much Love.

I don't know a whole lot, but I know when I started exercising people told me that our muscles will a) start to increase which weighs more than fat and b) not only does our body retain the water, but so do the muscles. So- I'm not sure if it was you who told me this-LOL or who, but if you have increased your workout intensity your body could be gaining pounds in the right area (calf muscles, etc) and/or your muscles need the hydrating for workout purposes. My body held on to some weight gain for about a week after I first started exercising so I do wonder if there is honestly a connection there. I am still not losing a whole lot scale wise, but my face is getting slimmer and my body is trimming up. Also, they say that once your body gets to a point where IT thinks it's happy (not you) it likes to stay there and drive you insane! So- even though I know it's driving you crazy- try to let go of the number game and look at your overall health. Are you doing the things you need and want to do to live a healthy prosperous life? Aside from a number- do you feel better? I know we all feel the same way, and it's easier said than done, but now that you are sooooo close to your "number" goal- I would try to relax and just enjoy the fitness and wellbeing side of this new journey for yourself. You have done amazing things for your body, soul, mind- let the number drift off for a bit because the more stress you add to your body over that number- the more stress you put on your body- which we all know can do a number of things. ok- lol- that's my 2 cents worth.

I, too, was thinking that maybe the extra steps are redefining your muscle mass and the gain is muscle.... I know that you are doing everything else correctly so it has to be some tie to the exercise. Might be something to research....after all, body builders weigh much more than they appear to weigh. MamaShea has made some very good points. And, Miss Paula, you must admit...wellness is the name of this game afterall...not a number on the scale! Do I sound like Paula talking to Gwen?????

I can't see it being muscle - i am sure you don't build muscle that quick. More likely water weight... Good move weighing every day, as long as you don't get too stressed about the figures... Could be when you weigh tomorrow it has dropped .. Hope so :-)

That determination is inspiring! That is so motivating! Good for you. I'm sure the 2.5 lbs is just one of those daily fluctuations. You will be back on track before you know it. I commend you on taking up the challenge of daily weigh ins. That process is so frustrating for me that I had to give it up. We are here for you when you need to vent. Good luck.

For sure, it's not for the faint of heart. But I gave up being controlled by that stupid little box a long time ago. Right now, it's information, and valuable at that! I need to know if it goes up and down, or if it stays up...for a few days then drops. I am reflecting on some of my history w/ my periods, and wondering if my lack of one is connected to my eating whole natural foods, and lean protein. (read an article about that.) this could be my TOM, and I don't even know it. 46, 47, 48 .. is rather early to stop having periods, and this slow down and stop came AFTER eating low carb. I have checked w/ my Dr. and she assures me there is nothing wrong w/ this.. if that is what is causing it, it is rather common in vegatarians, and 'in training athletes'. (which I am not, but perhaps my body thinks I am?) Anyway... if I weigh every day for awhile, I will get a better sense of what is going on... is this a weight gain? or a fluctuation? is something a loss? or a fluctuation? It's time to figure this out!!!!!!

Paula, I am with you. At the end of last year I weighed in once a week because the daily fluctuations drove me mad. But when you're worried about gaining it's best to weigh in more often. You know you haven't put on 2.5 lb fat, hopefully it will have gone by tomorrow. This little box really has power over us even when we don't want it to.

Knowledge is power, but don't let it cause you stress. Stress will increase the hormones that make you hungry, cause your body to store fat in your abdomen, and can cause anxiety and physical ailments. You've done tremendously! Keep up the great work you've been doing and the positive results will show up...on the scale, on the measuring tape and/or in overall feelings of well-being. No good work is done in vain. Keep the Faith!

Paula, I hear you on the weight fluctuations. It is so frustrating. I have been true to my food, trying to be more active, added the kettle bell back in, and the scale still isn't budging. As for the periods, mine stopped when I was about 48 or 49 so it is possible, and that is before I started the low carb lifestyle. I think I still have some fluctuations at certain times that I am not sure aren't tied to when my cycle would have occurred. Hope you figure out what is going on with your fluctuations. Have a great day. Love ya!

Yes, you are driving yourself crazy! But that is OK - you've got to do what is right for you. Words of wisdom lacking here.

You will figure this out, you always do, and it could just be your muscles retaining fluid while you up the ante so to speak. Good luck Paula.
