Well, I'm finally back. I have not done so well. However, I do have a new motivation now. I just recently went to the doctor about a swollen finger that I suspected was caused by a cat bite. Well, when they did a blood test they checked for what's called c-reactive Proteins. (CRP) my CRP level was quite high, it was 6.4, this indicated inflammation in by body and possibly Heart Disease. After several days going back and forth, my blood pressure is high, and my cholestoral is high. 293 to be exact. I now have a choice. Give in to the traditional treatments and take drugs like Lipitor, or get serious about Atkins and my health and take control of my life. I'm going to choose the Atkins approach. Wish me luck....

Well. I'm very dissapointed in myself this week. I'm not going to give up though. Does anyone know the latest on coffee during induction. The only reference in the new Atkins information is that it being a stimulant it may inhibit weight loss in some.

I'm going to have to take this slowly. It's going to be harder that I thought with everything going on. But this time, my motivation and reason to loose weight is a bit different. I went to a spine specialist and he confirmed that I have a Level 1 Degenerative Spondylolisthesis in my L5 vertebrate. He said I have two options, live with it, or have fusion surgery. Let me tell you, fusion surgery is a BIG Deal. 3 hour surgery, 3-5 days in the hospitial and 6 - 8 months for recovery, and that with only a 70% success rate. The live with it option however, includes taking anti-inflammatory medicine with not so good side-effects, mild to moderate specialized exercises for the lower back, and loosing some weight. So my plan is to give myself 6 months to try to "live with it" before making the decision on the surgery.

Well. I keep coming back to this site to try and get myself focused and motivated. It does help to see others having the same difficulties as I am staying focused. To be honest with you all, i fell off the wagon after only one week because of a doctor's visit. My Chiropractor referred me to a Spine Specialist because the Steriod Epidurals are not working. He gave me two choices, either learn to live with the pain or have fusion surgery. Living with pain also means loosing about 40 lbs. That's the tough part. I actually caught myself considering having the surgery as a way to loose weight. Can you believe that! So. I'm going to once again try to get focused and do this. I believe getting the weight off and getting back to some sort of exercise regimen, will help my back. If not, then I guess I will have the surgery. Just like with the weight problem, only those with disc degenerative disease (Spondylolisthesis) know what the pain is like.
