So, I am starting over again. This time, though, I actually have a well-formed goal and a plan of attack. I am going to be meal planning every Thursday and grocery shopping and meal prepping every Friday.
I am going to be waking up at 6:33 a.m. (I know it's a weird time but it's what works for me) everyday and doing a 30-45 minute session of Yoga from a DVD at least 3 days a week.
I am also trying to stop eating fast food and substitute the things I crave (like french fries) for healthier options. I know I can substitute some sweets for fruit, but bread is one of my biggest cravings and I'm not sure how to supplement that until it goes away. Any suggestions?

I have a huge sweet tooth and I was miserable trying to curb it, so I looked and looked and I got russel stovers sugar free chocolates and it’s been a life saver , I like sweets at night so I have a piece and it’s just as good as any other candy.

I track carbs and keep them really low - that's the only way I can resist their siren call. I eat non-starch veggies, healthy fats and protein in moderation, and feel full and satisfied without the carbs.

My husband is a bread addict, and no amount of lettuce wraps or other non-bread alternatives will work for him... he would just end up cheating every few days which wasn't doing diabetes any favors. Our solution was Joseph's low carb pitas and lavash bread (we buy ours at Walmart but you can also buy them online.) They are made with flax, oat bran, and whole wheat... a whole pita is 5 grams of net carbs. He cuts the pita in half and stuffs it full of meat and cheese (and veggies that he never used to put on his unhealthy sandwiches) and that is enough to fill him up and satisfy his bread craving for just 2.5 grams of net carbs. We've made everything from PB&J (almond butter and sugar free jam) to grilled cheese to meatball subs and philly cheesesteaks with them. I'd love for him to be able to give up bread altogether, but if we're going to make changes that are going to last the rest of our lives, it has to be things we can stick with. For him, this works. He hasn't had 'regular' bread in more than two months and his blood sugar numbers are phenomenal. He doesn't feel the need to cheat and he frequently comments that he doesn't even feel like he's dieting because he was able to find an alternative that he could live with. Good luck on your plan, we're rooting for you!

If you stop eating fast food or cut in half , you will see results - Find the foods you love and stick with them (good foods) - You are already winning because you have decided to do something about it - not if but when - Good luck

Thank you everyone for your support and comments. I really appreciate it.
johnwentzville, I'm actually trying to cut out all fast food with a very few exceptions where I feel I can get healthy-ish alternatives like sandwiches/salads or something with lots of veggies.
Britt1975, thank you. I will try those suggestions.
